Member of Parliament for Asawase constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka has descendedly heavily on U.K. Prime Minister, Theresa May.
He has described her as "Mad" over some comments she raised on homosexuality.
The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, while addressing the Commonwealth Heads of government meeting in London on Tuesday said she “deeply regrets” the UK’s role in introducing the anti-gay laws.
She said the UK’s role seems to have resulted in a “legacy of discrimination, violence and even death,” in some of its former colonies.
Most former colonies of Britain frown against homosexuality and have as part of measures to curtail it, introduced criminal laws against it.
In some extreme cases, citizens in those countries lynch persons suspected to be gays or lesbians.
According to Reuters news agency, colonial-era homophobic laws are still used in 37 of the Commonwealth’s 53 member nations.
Theresa May, while addressing the gathering in the UK, said, “I’m all too aware that these laws were often put in place by my own country. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now.”
She praised member countries which had recently decriminalized homosexuality.
She added that “Yet there remains much to do . . . Nobody should face discrimination and persecution because of who they are or who they love. The UK stands ready to support any Commonwealth nation wanting to reform outdated legislation that makes such discrimination possible.”
But speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' Programme, the outraged minority Chief Whip questioned why the U.K. has not legalized polygamy.
He explained that Ghana as a country has a tradition and we will not renege on our culture and religion to adopt a foreign culture.
"We are going to resist it with all our might when it is brought to Parliament. We will not allow them to impose any foreign barbaric culture on this country.
"If they like, they should legalize polygamy but we will not allow them legalize same sex marriage in this country", he said..
"They should run their country the way they want and we should also run ours the way we want . . . why must they try to impose the way the want on us . . .", he added.

Paa Osei ir whatever you call yourselve. the fact that someone decides to do something does not mean we as a people should follow suit due to technology, or the internet. If your logic is right then our ways of life should be adopted by the British too. Polygamy is in point. Is it not a human right for people who want to marry two wives to do so in Britain. Why has it been expressely legislated that it is illegal? Do not tell me how to live my life or else I will also tell you how to live your life. Simple. I do not want special hospitals in Accra to cure veneral deseases affecting the ***barred word*** of males as it is done in central london. I do not want any subarb of Accra to be like what is happenng in London Victoria. I do not want places in Accra to have Public washing places like the one near Algate becuase they are leaking throughout. For ones, Muntaka is right.
Abodaaaam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***barred word*** Ghanaian journalist. Where in the statement did the Honorable member used mad? Its just a disgrace of our journalistic standards. Putting the word mad in inverted commas does not change the meaning that the MP did not use the word. That is the problem in Ghana with our kontomire journalist. That is the reason why you are always beaten by the police. Instead of identifying the right person to ask questions, you choose to ask a constable at the forefront so that whatever he says becomes what the police are doing. You go and cover situations without wearing an id card and when you are warned to refrain from what you are doing you think you know more than the police or soldier so you don't mind. In fact most of our journalist are those who did not get the passes to go to University that choose to go to the School of Journalism. !di0ts, learn to write what the person said without twisting anything.
Mind you, culture is not static but dynamic. It changes with time, through our associations with other cultures. More profound is this change and influence when we today talk about technology, social media, internet to the extent of its impact of seeing the world as a Global village. Therefore, let us not hide behind the folly of culture, belief, religion, and continue to make the same mistakes over and over again to hamper our progress as human beings. In the other hand, we should be guided by the folly of copying blindly.
In as much as we all do not support Theresa May, I think this is way below the belt. A parliamentarian and for that matter a former Minister should not speak this way. You see you people despite your position and so called education have been saying it as it is to our Presidents here in Ghana. And now look at the international embarrasment you have caused us.
You see when you allow people to write your laws for you this what happens. Some of these laws should have been revised long time ago and made it more rigid. When you come back to power make sure you criminalized the more.
for once uve said something reasonable. keep it up
season you words Mr MP. If we develop our country there will be no point 'begging' for aid from May and Co. Cause that's when May and Co tell us these
Thank u sir
Hurling insults at the persons of opposed opinions is the trademark of the NDC.The Prime Minister May is only expressing her regret with the benefit of hindsight that they should not have introduced the anti-gay law at that time as it were. It was wrong at that time and also wrong today. Why is she mad when they have corrected the mistake today and many other countries tow the same line of argument. And I do not think they are all mad. Please, do not insult her, just because your moral values as underlined by your culture do not conform to that of GB. Do speak to issues objectively just as they occur. Indeed, even then, when somebody is telling you a ridiculous story or all that may have the earmarks of being a big lie, do not for your best interest give him a suspicious look as much as to say, you are lying to me. Please, let this simple etiquette guide you in your intellectual discourse.Oh NDC! do not disgrace us, Ghanaians, internationally.
