“A year from now, we will come to analyse the successes or failure of...(NaBCo). In this country, we have had more than ten of these efforts: we’ve had GYEEDA, we’ve had NYEP becoming now YEA, we’ve had LESDEP, YESDEC, we’ve had YESP, we’ve had GEBSS, YCCES, we’ve had Youth in Agricultural Programme…none of these have anything to show," asserts Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil.
His remarks were in reaction to the various controversies surrounding the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) initiative.
The project which was launched a few days ago by President Akufo-Addo, is aimed at addressing graduate unemployment in the country.
It has been explained that the central objective of the new programme unlike the youth employment programme is to engage the raw talents of unemployed graduates and equip them with skills through a process of value addition and training.
However, some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are skeptical about this initiative; some describe it as '419'.
Reacting to this on MultiTV/Joy FM’s Newsfile on Saturday, Mr Bentil said such 'political programmes' are meant to show that the government in power is doing something about unemployment issues in the country.
“A year from now, we will come to analyse the successes or failure of...(NaBCo). In this country, we have had more than ten of these efforts: we’ve had GYEEDA, we’ve had NYEP becoming now YEA, we’ve had LESDEP, YESDEC, we’ve had YESP, we’ve had GEBSS, YCCES, we’ve had Youth in Agricultural Programme…none of these have anything to show. Point me one major success story...And when you calculate the nine years of these programmes and the tens and millions of dollars that we’ve spent on these things, you will come to appreciate when I say it is a political programme intended to show that the present government, or whichever government, is in power is doing something about the problem. My worry is whether we are going to get value for money. And my other worry is the potential negative effects of some of these programmes. The first problem is inflation. You will destabilise your macroeconomic stability when you pump so much money behind the unproductive activity. I worry about that,” he said.

Please, do not with your baseless comments seek to discourage constructive and informed criticism. Mr. Bentil has clearly shown where his genuine reservations are coming from. I think any serious Politician who wants to succeed in such a programme as short-term social intervention would note those concerns in good faith. Please, do not let us be overly partisan at the expense of exhibiting freely informed criticism. Otherwise, we stand to lose dearly the advantages of our great minds. Asem s€ b€!
Kofi Bentil, mr. l know all. This IMANI guys behave as if they are the repository of wisdom. Give peaople like this appointment in their field of speciality and you will see disaster. Kofi Bentil and Franklin Cudjoe, charley, you guys should give us a break. Do you guys expect us to continue be sitting home and involving our selves in some social vises? Or you want us to line up in front of your house for chop money every morning? Tell us how you would have solve this current menace of graduate unemployment in the short term and stop just talking because you are a think tank. To your information am a Geography graduate with a second class upper division since 2013 and without a job.
I am highly disappointed by the statement from IMANI deputy. IMANI is a think tank organisation, if there are several programs by the previous governments which have not worked successfully. It your duty to find the reason they did not succeed, you do not come out and say let wait and see in a years time will see the failure or success.I hope this man is waking encyclopedia with ***barred word*** knowledge. They should show him the exit, he does not qualify to be in the arena of think tanks.
Yes, to 'show off'and so what? Lets get serious for once IMANI GHANA.
Who pays these louts at Imani and what is their use anyway? They go into programmes with a certain fixed mentality. and they do not do proper content analysis of issues or suggest alternatives. The European countries paying these numbskulls are throwing away taxpayers money.Or is it that they think it is fashionable to condemn everything government does?
At least 100k of the unemployed graduates will not ask for money from their relations. If at the end of the month each of them can save GHC100, it is better than depending on relationships for your upkeep.
A country full of nay sayers. How do you expect such a country to grow economically?
You've drawn your conclusion even before time is due to assess the program. It seems they always want to be heard
One thing i like about Prez. Akuffo and Bawumia is that they think about the unemployed youth and THE tax payer. They can decided to misuse our money in the way JOHN MAHAMA and co. did but he believes in the ordinary Ghanaian so he is given us our fair share before we get fully employed. IMANI, come again because your analyses is far away from the truth. NABCO nie 700 for my pocket.
When you have been at home for years and nothing seems working then you will appreciate a good intervention as NaBCO. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. When we have F0O0OLS as this Kofi Bentil speaking like there's Water in his head representing the Think Tank Bodies in Ghana then we have a problem.
