Mr. Blay has been widely criticized for taking steps to fulfill his promise of purchasing the cars, after he took delivery of the first batch of 100 mini buses at the Port on Wednesday, barely three days to the party’s national delegate’s congress in Koforidua, where he’s contesting to become the substantive national chairman.
Mr. Blay, who facilitated the purchase of the mini buses, is reported to have made a down payment of 3 million dollars, which constitutes 30% of the total cost of 11.4 million dollars for the 275 cars.
Mr. Blay’s spokesperson has explained that the buses are not for free, and that they are to help the constituencies to manage their activities by themselves, and generate revenue by using them for commercial purposes, to pay for them over a two-year period.
But Mr. Freddie Blay’s close contender in the NPP chairmanship race, Stephen Ntim, has accused him of seeking to buy votes with the gesture, whereas others have questioned the source of the money, alleging possible corruption.
A source at the Office of the Special Prosecutor told Citi News that Mr. Amidu will investigate Mr. Blay whether or not he wins this Saturday’s election.
The source said Mr. Martin Amidu is of the view that, Mr. Blay is a public officer as a Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), and also as a national officer of the governing party who has influence, he falls under the Criminal offenses Act (1960) Act 29, and must therefore be questioned on his source of funding.
Mr. Stephen Ntim has advised the delegates of the NPP not to be swayed by the gifts and offers from Freddie Blay.
“If you are really in love with your party or any organization that you belong to, you don’t wait till a situation arises where you need favour from the people before you say I’m giving you a bus. If you do that, it amounts to vote-buying. Why is it that during the 2016 campaign he didn’t bring 275 pickups, not even buses, but wait for the time when you say ‘vote for me and get these buses’. That amounts to vote-buying,” he said.
“Please accept anything that is offered to you, but do not allow those considerations to influence your decision to vote for Ntim,” he advised NPP delegates.
While touting some of his achievements, Mr. Ntim said 16 years ago, he single-handedly donated 14 vehicles to the party. Back then he identified a need and took care of it without making any promises to anyone or expecting anything in return. He said every regional secretariat of the party received a vehicle from him, while four constituencies received one vehicle each.
“It is important to note that in those days, this modest gesture was unprecedented in the party,” he said.
He said he wanted delegates to consider him and vote for him due to his many efforts including delivering to the party 13 new constituencies in the 2016 elections.

Ghanaians are just a society of LIARS and HYPOCRATES!!!!! and GOD will punish and curse our nation Ghana especially these politicians ; what is the difference between the purchase of 275 buses by Mr Blay of the NPP and the kriminally minded gang of NDC thiffs who master minded the stilling of GHC51 million from Ghanaians under the fake initiative of a contract with the government-NDC at the time ; today Woyome is running around in courts attempting to refuse to pay back the cash whilst these politicians look on because both parties are involved ; the case of Mr Blay purchase although through the bank is different because the NPP used their contacts; connections and power to influence a bank to lend them the cash by getting the GNPC to guarantee the loan through the back door besides Mr Blay is a rich man and has influence in the banking sector and can borrow any cash from any bank ;the question did he borrow the cash on his own guarantees ? this is different from the NDC stilling model to dupe Ghanaians who used woyome ; alex segbefia; Betty Mould ; Nettey ; Asiedu Nketia ; Koku annd others to still our monies of GHC 51 million ; the transaction with the bank can be checked from the bank ; JJ Rawlings shot army officers for nothing but today the party he set up are the master stillers of our time , fact is that even if the money was stolen it was invested in Ghana and would give employment to people ; the Ndc stole our money and used and contracted a foreign company to build them a posh office and shared the rest of the cash and invested in Dubai and in foreign bank accounts ;Mr Blay business strategy will employ people and the cash will be paid back because guarantees have been offered for the loan .
@Paa Osei, ***barred word*** like you will never see any corruption in this government even if it will cost the life of your mother. You will need to take off your political spectacle to be able to see well. You will die before you will see the rot.
Aluta, let me candidly reassure that your pessimism and distrust about Nana to the extent of it creating the basis for military intervention is absolutely ungrounded. It is a pity that so far, for the best of your own interest don't recognise the effort, as much as to appreciate the determination, of our President to make Democracy work for Ghana. Indeed, if you had followed all his speeches in various world-renowned Platforms which the President had been given the chance to speak on, not without cause, he had been very emphatic and consistent about his intent to uphold and work by, the principles of Democracy. And he is walking the talk, therefore, your cynical feeling about Nana's Presidency is baseless.
THIS IS GHANA FOR YOU. WHAT GHANAIANS WANTED IS WHAT THEY ARE HAVING NOW. EVERYONE IN GHANA IS FAR ALERT FOR LIES TO GRAP BUT NONE IS READY FOR THE TRUTH. ALL THAT WE ARE HEARING OR SEEING IS JUST A TIP OF THE ICEBERG BUT WHAT IS PASSING THROUGH THE MAJOR FLOODGATES ARE YET TO COME TO LIGHT SOMETIME ONEDAY WHEN THE HARM WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. MARK MY WORDS; ELECTIONS 2020 WOULD NEVER SEE ANY FAIR ELECTIONS AND THE MILITARY WOULD BE FORCIBLY USED TO SURPRESS GHANAIANS OF ANY UPRISING AND THE SUPREME COURT COULD BE PANELLED TO SUIT NANA ADDO'S INTEREST. LETS WAIT TO SEE THAT TIME AND DAY. COMING EVENTS CAST THEIR SHADOWS. WATCH THEM AS THE EVENTS UNFOLD DAILY
Am very happy about what is going on, at least now we can compare Mahama govt to NANA Addo govt.
Rawlings the least said about him the better. After taking money from NANA ADDO not to criticize his govt, what can he say. He is a father of corruption. And Nana Addo 2020 will tell about his gross incompetence and corruption level.
If this happened under mahama, all npp sympathizers would have called John mahama the devil. In this instance, how do we describe nana addo and barwumia? Is this the change Ghanaians wanted. Asem ooooooo!
Do we still have wise men Rev Martey and Dr Otabil in this country? Are they seeing this open display of folly and stoupidity? Is Rawlings still alive? He is quick to talk about defeated Ndc government but has been quiet when it comes to this barbaric display of corrupt tendencies. God will judge them one after the other.
Thieveryy at it's peak.. We're seeing them... This is unthinkable!!!! Nana is a trickster, roogue .. You think Ghanaians will forgive you?
There is no way to justify this impudent corrupt practice
