Newly-elected Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Freddie Blay, has described as “very foolish”, claims that the timing for bringing in some 100 of 275 buses he promised the party, smacked of vote-buying, as far as the party’s recently held National Delegates’ Conference in Koforidua is concerned.
“It is amazing that people will suggest that”, he said, adding: “It’s very foolish for people to ask that”.
"It’s amazing that people will even suggest that and journalists will buy into that. Why now? If yesterday I didn’t do business, today I want to do business, ‘why am I now into business?’ It’s a very foolish question for people to ask that".
According to him, he started arrangements to bring in the buses some eleven months ago – way before the internal polls held on Saturday, 7 July.
At the time, “I had not decided to contest yet”, he told Accra-based Joy FM’s Kojo Yankson in an interview.
Anti-graft body Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), the Minority in Parliament, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede, have all expressed reservations about buses, saying such moves monetise Ghanaian politics and engender corruption.
Mr Blay, however, said critics like Togbe Afede do not know what they talking about. “Maybe he doesn’t know what he is talking about”, adding that: “…Before then, I arranged 200 motorbikes for the regions and two or three pick-ups for each region”.
The Minority wants Mr Blay to step aside as Board Chair of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for a forensic audit to be conducted.
Meanwhile, GNPC has issued a statement saying it played no role whatsoever in Mr Blay’s campaign.

BLAY IS VERY VERY STUPIED ***barred word***
No wonder, and I say no wonder because this guy just finished University formal education joined NDC, became a politician and a Minister alike without any working experience. What can you expect of such a guy whose main quality is being able to articulate himself in the Queen's language? In other words, he can only propagate untruth and make baseless polemics. Therefore, to be engaged in an informed and policy-based discourse is his big deficit. And indeed, this defect or deficiency cut across the whole NDC-set up. That notwithstanding, I wholeheartedly encourage NDC to pursue the idea of setting up an Institution to train its' members to fill up this big and an awful gap. Then, a political party that strives on propaganda, lies, polemics, and populism has no future in the long term in the democratic space. And I bet, you can mark this on your wall, NPP would remain in power for 40 years (5 terms) till the other small parties reorganize and join together to form a formidable opposition. If NPP-Nana Administration is able to only accomplish 20% of its' promises and policies, NDC might decline as a potential Government in opposition and eventually perish in torment. Asem s€ b€
There are a lot of garbage comments on this platform. Guys, is anyone thinking intelligibly on issues. Corporate bodies borrow money all the time to finance their biz. As for the timing, may be we should critique the motive with hard evidence. But the propaganda and hollow arguments, please we can do better. If Mr Blay did this in the past unknown to the public, are we saying now he can't because he was going for the top job. People are put in positions of responsibility to think and manage and come out with innovative ideas, That is how countries develop and companies grow. Are we surprised that our country is not developing fast enough?. We criticise every new idea, from NHIS, free SHS, Ghana Card, school feeding, you name it. Why do we vote for leaders if all they have to do is what every ordinary person on the street is doing?
Look at who is calling others fooolish. No wonder ur father named u Worseman but in ur 'wisdom'u decided to change it to Worsemao, meaning u are worse(greater)than Mao Tse Tung.Go back to sleep.
yes this vote buying is very ***barred word*** as claimed Blay...which means Togbe Afedze who sincerely criticise the action is very ***barred word***...wooooow! thats the power of political power backed by nana addo who said Blay's name is written in Gold.waiting for any voluntary revolutionist to pull the gun,and i will be the first to support any action that will bring sanity into our political system
I this interview be repeated on 7th December or November 2020
An arrogant man will surely fall . we're just giving you time
Politics. So this man has mouth to talk. And has adequate and verifiable collateral to purchase 275 buses within a short period in poltitics. God is watching.
I pray for mother Ghana in Jesus Name to do away with politicians. They have the guts(courage and determination; toughness of character) to defend the very actions they once condemned.the most annoying part of their actions are paying people to defend them, granting interviews here and there.and sometimes some people not seeing through the lines.wow
Yes it is very f000lishh on the part of the corrupt NDC.... It will create jobs for those who will be involved such as the drivers etc.... The corrupt NDC party used $25M state money to build their headquarters building. They must first tell us where they NDC got that money from.
