A former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah says it will be difficult for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to market former President John Mahama to voters in his bid to be re-elected President in 2020.
According to him, the difficulty in marketing Mahama stems from the NDC losing the 2016 elections which has informed his (Dzirasah's) decision to back Professor Joshua Alabi for the contest.
As a result, Mr Dzirasah says he and fellow NDC stalwart Ambassador Victor Gbeho have thrown their weight behind Professor Alabi's campaign, describing him as the fresh face the NDC needs to unseat the New Patriotic Party.
"I would want to say that after several reflections about the way forward for the National Democratic Congress, myself and my big brother Ambassador Gbeho conducted a few investigations and came to the conclusion that the most marketable personality that could carry us into the year 2020 as a flagbearer is Professor Joshua Alabi," Mr Dzirasah said in an interview with Citi FM.
"We have found in the man a personality that has all it takes, his achievements, his attitude towards the party and a host of other things. Another fact of the matter is that we need to market somebody that can take us for eight years without so we came to that conclusion".
The former South Tongu MP also insisted that only a fresh face will enable the NDC to overturn the massive deficit by which it lost the 2016 elections.
"Let us not forget that we have come from the backdrop of about 800,000 votes if we want to recover and come to the surface before we start fighting for the 10 million plus one vote. I think that is a yeoman's job and a fresh face will be a better opportunity for us to accomplish that".
Team Alabi welcomes support
A member of Prof Alabi's campaign team, Nii Amasah Namoale says they welcome the support from the NDC stalwarts and their confidence of his victory.
He said: "We are very happy and we have to thank these two members of the NDC... They have seen a good thing and are telling Ghanaians that everybody should rally around Professor Joshua Alabi... I am happy these eminent people are telling Ghanaians to know that when we bring Professor Joshua Alabi, 2020 will be very easy for us and we will get it (Presidency) for eight years.

we only know jm and nothing else. if marketable or not we will vote for him.
Stupiiiiiiiiiiid comment coming from one uselesssss NPP supporter.
Really? Let's rather wait till Nana finishes his first term then one could have a fair analysis of the situation. How could you imply that the two have already been tested when Nana is not even two years into his first term? As for Former President Mahama, if he is not driven by GREEEED to think of coming back, then your guess is as good as mine.
Anyone who roots for the return of John Mahama is a nation wrecker and ought to be shot. This man's moral compass is so f*cked up that he cannot tell the difference between what is right and what is wrong. The NDc has the obligation for total overhaul if it ever wants the people of Ghana to even look at them.
tribal politics in ndc, as all the ewes and gas are supporting one guy because chief ewe says so ghanaians need a fair and balance opinion and not inward opinions. mahama was corrupt and not disciplined in physical spending yet ghanaians need an objective assessment of his wrong deeds and not inward opinion
hahha you this NDC guys paa is it jealousy or something else. how is he not marketable? if you guys knew what went on during the last election you would have known that all of you in that party did not help Mahama. We have tested Nana too and we know what he is capable of doing so now just bring Mahama and Ghanaians will select which one of them was the real person Ghanaian wanted as president.
