A leading figure in the recently launched "Organising for Ghana" OfG, Goosie Tanoh on Wednesday called on the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) former President Jerry John Rawlings at his Ridge office in Accra.
Goosie Tanoh, a former aide to President Rawlings during the PNDC era, noted that the ethical collapse of state institutions and the grinding poverty and insecurity of Ghanaians today has dangerous similarities to the situation that Ghanaians confronted in the late 70s and early 80s.
He asserted that an urgent course-correction is required if Ghana is to avoid the kind of social collapse it faced in 1981. This will require a massive and sacrificial national mobilisation that not only solves the country’s material problems but that challenges the selfish and elitist values and leadership practices that underpin them. He noted that political parties, the central political institutions that the 31st December Revolution bequeathed to the Fourth Republic, are simply not delivering value for society and that the political establishment must be overhauled to bring the masses back to the forefront of national development struggles.
Goosie indicated to former President Rawlings that the OfG agenda is first to reorganise the NDC to restore voluntarism, participatory decision-making, integrity, and transparency; second to regain public trust in the NDC and reposition it in national life; and third to help it recapture power to resume the national democratic transformation of our country. He said that the OFG campaign is a successor, in a constitutional context, to the revolutionary struggles that President Rawlings led in the late 1970s and early 1980s which saw the mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians in their communities, workplaces, schools and barracks across the country to collectively, confidently analyse and resolve a wide range of socio-political problems rooted in our historical position in the global economy and the profligacy of the Ghanaian political elite.
“These experiences have profoundly shaped my own political outlook and methods. They underlie what I believe I can offer the Party and the Ghanaian people. Today the NDC needs leadership that understands mass mobilisation and participatory democracy. My greatest pride remains my work as Head of Projects and Programmes in the National Development Committee where we worked with PDCs, WDCs, the Student & Youth Task Force and other mass organisations in achieving this mobilisation. If I have any claim to leadership now it is based on this experience.
On his part President Rawlings again reiterated the need for a free and fair party electoral process at regional, national and flagbearer level.
He said it would be important that the campaign be devoid of the indecent money politics that had plagued it in recent years.
Flt Lt Rawlings stated that he would leave the decision as to who leads the NDC into the 2020 elections to the collective judgement of the delegates. He affirmed his position not to be an obstacle to all those seeking leadership positions in the NDC.
In his concluding remarks Goosie Tanoh mentioned that it would be a mistake to assume that dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs will translate automatically into a rejection of the NPP administration. He said NDC members need to think deeply about the challenge ahead and make the right choices and commitments not only to achieve victory but to be able to deliver the kind of leadership that the country needs.
OfG is a progressive pressure group within the NDC that is campaigning for the restoration of the Party’s founding vision, principles and values. Goosie Tanoh is also considering a run for the Presidency in 2020 on the ticket of the NDC.

IF GHANA DEPENDS ON THE NDC PARTY OUR NATION WILL NOT SEE DEVELOPMENT IN ANY MEANINGFUL WAY. LOOK AT THE VOLTA REGION AS A MICROCOSM. THE REGIONS HAS OVERWHELMINGLY VOTED NDC SINCE 1992 AND YET IT ONE OF THE POOREST REGIONS IN GHANA, EVEN RAWLINGS, AN INDIGENE OF THE REGION RULED FOR 19 GOOD YEARS AND COULD NOT HELP THE REGION FOR ALL THOSE YEARS. THIS IS SAME PICTURE REPLICATED ALL OVER GHANA. WHEN NDC IS IN CHARGE, GHANA RETROGRESSES TWENTY-FIVE YEARS INTO CORRUPTION, INCOMPETENCE AND DESPAIR.
NDC the value is the same...... Corruption corruption corruption......
Once NDC always NDC. What is the intellectual basis for somebody being handsome as criteria to get votes only by virtue of just being handsome? That is silly, and it can only be assumed by one who underrates the intelligence of the electorates. This level of thinking portrays NDC as being intellectually inferior to the NPP. Mr. Goosie Tanoh stands taller both politically and intellectually than his peers' competitors for the NDC Flagbearer-position, please, just market him as such. The baseless polemics, propaganda, populism and the excesses of the same won't help. They rather become counterproductive and put your credibility in question.
Another opportunist! They're suddenly trooping to Rawlings and regurgitating the same old, stale rhetoric that they churn out when seeking power. The most annoying of them all is "osimasi" who claims he "owes God and Ghanaians a duty". If you fail woefully to deliver in 8 years, what the f**k can you deliver in 4 years? Let NDC give him the flag bearer and he'll be taken to court to explain why he took ex-gratia and all benefits of an ex-president, yet turning round to contest the presidency again. GREEEEEEEDY BASSSSSSTAAARRR.....D!
PNDC/NDC is the bane of ghana's economic stagnation, under development and socio-political miscreant. Historically, the PNDC/NDC has statistically ruled ghana for a long time spanning decades. what do we see today? Any progress? and socio-economic improvement in the lives of the citizenry? Anything to show for? Nothing in particular but continued hardship, massive unemployment and ***barred word*** from the public purse by the winner takes all politicians. Both the PNDC/NDC/NPP have recruited and staff positions with men who lack foresight, vision and strategy to move the country forward and take it from poverty. In the midst of plentiful natural resources and human talent, PNDC/NDC/NPP have all failed to harness these resources into positive production. They only focus on themselves and master the art of stealing and ***barred word*** from the public purse. Most countries around the world who don't come close to the natural and human resources ghana has been blessed up have even made huge economic, social and political strides in their body politic. A case example is Thailand, Papua New Guines, Malawi, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapor. The funny thing is that all these countries were once upon a time were colonized by the Brits. They did not complain about colonialism or nothing of that sort. Rather they mastered the art and strategy of development through education and empowerment that has served them well. These countries never believed in hand outs. They never took hand outs and made a habit out of it. Instead they worked hard and were honest to themselves. They helped each other out and were loyal to their resources and public purse. They applied the rule of law and accountability for the public good and made sure that corruption was tamed to the ground through an independent judiciary and rule of law.
GOOSIE WHOOOOOOOOOOOO???????????? WHO IS HE TOO????????? GOOSIE WHO?????????????
Go ask your mom some of the qualities she considers when voting? That is why someone like Jerry could be your president for so long.
Who told you Ghanaian women are cheap and only look for handsome men. Goodie are you contesting because you are attractive and handome ?
Beautiful! This is what we want. Competition is a good thing. At least he has stood for national election before. He has been on the 2000 election roster, which makes him another easily marketable candidate for the party. The bagbins, spios, alabis and mensahs are not as popular as goosie tandoh. I predict the context is going be seriously between mahama and goosie tandoh. The cadres in the party may surprisingly vote for him to lead the party, though i doubt he will be mahama. Time will tell. Nana addo should be worried because with goosie on board, even if he doesn't win he could potentially be the running mate and that man is extremely intelligent, bold and a fighter. On top of it all he is a very handsome person who can easily cash the attention of our women. Watch out nana barwumia! Rawlings would be fully backing him.
