Former Deputy Finance Minister, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to craft a well thought out message during the 2016 General elections.
This he noted, contributed to why the party lost power to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“It is a problem of communication; we did not actually have a message. Where we did, we were not able to communicate that message”
He said the NDC focused too much on infrastructure development and failed to even communicate the benefits of some the projects it embarked on to the electorates.
According to him, the NDC needs a leader of integrity who can be trusted by Ghanaians without any shred of doubt.
The former minister who was speaking on 3FM’s Winston Amoah on the Sunrise morning show said the NDC needs to undergo some reforms in order to be re-energized to attain power in 2020.
He said the NDC as a party has gone contrary to its core values and beliefs, and this led to their defeat during the 2016 elections.
“We have gone off track, the party was formed on some principles and values, and we went off track those principles and values. We are a social democratic party, when it comes to social interventions; we are the party to lead social interventions in this country, because that is our nature,” he said.
According to him, what Ghanaians want is a party that cares about their wellbeing, and not one that is bombarded with allegations of corrupt acts among other things.
Mr. Ricketts-Hagan made reference to the NPP’s Free SHS policy which he said is a good policy, and that ideally, the NDC is supposed to have embarked on such a social policy which is beneficial to the Ghanaian people.
He said the NDC needs people who are willing to serve the people, and not serve for selfish gains.
“It looks as if people fight for leadership position in the NDC party just to place themselves in the position where they believe that maybe some resources will come their way, and they will control some resources, and in the process take the resources somewhere else.”
Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, who is contesting to become the flagbearer of the NDC, said he plans on ensuring that discipline prevails within the party.
“I want to bring discipline in the NDC because there are some elements of indiscipline creating problem in the party.

This man is speaking sense, it is good he will run for the flagbearer to better that ndc
The way even in opposition you are so busy holding press conferences without thinking of coming out with a message for Ghanaians. Do you think you have a message now for Ghanaians. Will that message not be based on lies like the one term premium of NHIS you propagated during the 2008 elections? ONAAAAAPO.
hahahahahahaaa, I laugh aaa go enter my kitchen, you said it all.
@ 'eveil ndc' you are so much on point, ndc doesn't know what they want it is just a group of kriminals who have formed a party to steeal from the people, they would certainly rot in opposition
and who said u v a message a message now
ndc never had any message in any past election. Rawlings won his elections bcos he was the one in charge when elections started and there was no way he was going to bow out just like that. Mills (may his soul rest in peace) won out of public sympathy due to his peaceful nature. Mahama stole the verdict in 2012. so all past elections won by ndc were not bcos they had any message. they never had but 2016 was so clear that even a new born baby at the time new they were just f00l1ng around. 2020 will not be different
Not true. NDC had a message - The Green Book. But I agree with you that people in NDC only fight for places just to get the opportunity to enrich themselves. Why else will Mahama even dream of coming back after that embarrassing defeat? He feels he did not use the chance he had to grab as much as possible, so he is staging a comeback hoping to get the opportunity again to do that. He seems not to even appreciate the fact that God had been so good to him... he is now abusing God's blessings.
'According to him, the NDC needs a leader of integrity who can be trusted by Ghanaians without any shred of doubt.' Is this man saying that JDM don't have intergrity? Then JDM is corrupt if not how can he give about half of our bauxite to his brother without proper parliamentry approval.
You are not cut out for that! Your mantra has and continue to be: It is not possible... Now that Afari Gyan and Charlotte are out of the picture, we shall see how you will come back to power again, since you have no message.
Kweku Ricketts- Hagan you are on cause but your party will bastadize you for speaking the truth like they did to Kojo Yankah. Kweku, who told you ndc us social democrats? do you really believe ndc know the real meaning of social democrats? ndc don't know where they belong and they say it just because NPP lean to Center right, and do you know the meaning of center right? it combines social and capitalism like America, America is a capitalist country but they have the most social interventions, because they don't lean on one sided. Don't brand the NPP as only capitalist but social democratics, there is a difference between socialism and her cousin communism and that's where ndc belong but not social democrats like in America. Ndc are socialists/communism like practiced in North Korea where everything is the government and those around do whatever with the resources. Don't put dust on the eyes of the ign****barred word***,ndc are communists like the former CPP, where did they get the social democrats from, what have they done for the 27 years of Ghana's 61 years of independence? let ndc tell us only one social intervention they brought to help the poor and needy? ndc brought cash and carry while President Kuffuor and the NPP brought NHIS for everyone who register to get good health care which ndc came chopped the money and made the program us*less! Is this the party Ghanaians want? are Ghanaians ready for socialism/communism? ndc don't know what they want and don't believe in what they preach, it's simply not a political party but an organised krime association! No political party seeking the welfare of the people will criticize any good thing for the people, with no solution from them. Kweku, might have a different mind from his party and look moderate but he is on the wrong side because ndc are not and don't believe in what Kweku believe in. Even in the civilized world we have some moderates in government and opposition who may agree on some policies they think will help the people and such people are loved by the people and the most important thing in politics is affection, if you are a politician hated by the people especially those outside your party then you are in trouble because the more you talk for your party the more the floating and independent voters who are among those you've created disaffection for yourself turn to hate your party. Ndc need moderate people like Kweku Ricketts -Hagan who will say it as it is,good is good and bad is bad for them to be able to cause affection among Ghanaians because most of their communicators are disliked by the people for their too much political nons*nsense. Ndc need to retire all those loud mouths who have caused disaffection for the party and bring moderate ones who will show some sense of maturity and patriotism, couple with respect and humility to the people , but with these young guys who think ndc reward insults and arrogance, ndc will rot in opposition. I mean those insulting Mahama boys, will keep ndc forever in opposition.Anyway, insults, disrespect, arrogance, boistrous, rude and power drunk is the nature of the ndc from birth so nothing will change them. Let them rot in opposition!
