Former President John Mahama is wondering why he is being asked to apologise when he has done nothing wrong.
If you may recall, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante and some other political pundits condemned some comments the former President made and asked that he apologise.
Former President Mahama after some members of the NDC were shot at La Bawaleshie during Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election blamed the ruling NPP and said 'we will match them boot for boot'
According to him, “we are not going to joke in 2020, and I’m sounding a warning to the NPP – we are going to match them boot for boot…I want to sound a caution that NDC has a revolutionary root and when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us to that. It is just that we are mindful of this country’s democracy and that is why we must be the first to respect it. That is why we are acting as a party that is docile and respecting the rule of law. But if we believe that the government cannot protect our people and we believe that the government is using its vigilante groups and illegal forces to intimidate and harass and injure our people, then we may have to advise ourselves.”
Rev. Prof. Asante speaking to the former President's comment said: “if he said that, I would want to say that President Mahama, with all humility, I will plead with him to apologise to the nation. In making that statement, he has really created fear in the hearts of people and it’s not just President Mahama I will say this to, I want to say this to all our leaders, people we are looking up to in this nation; that under such circumstances one would expect that they will be the voice of wisdom, a voice that will calm tension, a voice that will help Ghanaians to be able to say: Indeed, we have leaders. So, please let’s be very careful about these things that we say”
However, the former President said instead of Rev Asante and others asking that he apologise, they should rather condemn those who engaged in the shootout.
"Look at what happened in Ayawaso West Wuogon and what was pitiful was that these were armed people that our Ghana police service say they don’t know and yet at Ayawaso, the guys were running rampage and our police service could not control them...the duty of the National security council is not to control a force; they coordinate the existing security services. They are not supposed to have hoodlums dressed in police uniforms, using police vehicles and firing bullets at innocent civilians…and when you talk, it is rather me they are accusing…and they say I should come and apologise…I should come and apologise? meanwhile, you won’t condemn the one who shot. We will not tolerate this in Ghana. We are serving them notice, they shall never deploy such a force in any election in Ghana again; we will resist it…. we are for peace but to enjoy peace you must be vigilant and alert. We must defend our democracy. We will not accept all be die in this country…. they should advise the ones unleashing violence; not me" he said while speaking to delegates during his campaign tour.

Mahama is indeed power drunk. I will vote for the NDC wen they vote him out in their presidential primaries. We can't allow these kind of leaders to lead us. He doesn't care sacrificing the whole nation to become president. His thinking pattern alone tells me he is incompetent.
Mahama, Bole Bambole Guy is digging a grave for the NDC and himself. If I am a member of that party, I will not vote for him to become the flag bearer ooooo. Very very sad to hear a former president talking like polling agent. Ghanaians should not give him even 20% in 2020. He can't rule Ghana. He is a power-drunk person as he planned with his team to kill Atta Mills in order for him to become president. He doesn't respect Ghanaians. He is drumming war drums but his children are in Dubai enjoying. God help and protect Ghana for the bad people like Mahama and team.
What Mahama and the NDC do not get - as usual - is the context. If you produce a clip where then opposition used the term 'boot-for-foot' in a general context, you cannot make a comparison when today you use the term right on the heels of the ayawaso incident! In the Ayawaso incident, it meant, you were going to respond to the opposition in kind. They kill, you kill. That's the problem with his recent comment.
NDC and Mahama have short memory, they have already forgotten all the past by-elections that they beat the NPP into a pulp. Yet they are making a whole lot of noise about this tiny incident just to seek public sympathy.
It is strange no one is talking about Sam George who led men on motorbikes to go to the polling station to cause trouble whilst the place was out of bounds to motor bikes.
Dear Mahama and Leaders of the Country, please when its time for 'boot for boot, pls let your wives and children lead by example... Let them start the 'boot for boot'we will follow.
It would be appropriate for good leader, to promote visionary ideas and not to promote violence at a period where Ghana's history of development and growth is at its peek. I would expert a good leader and a good politician to understand that and rather encourage peace, not violence. 2020 not the best for NDC. Its obviously another win for NPP.
YES OH! YES ANY GHANAIAN WHO CALLS HIMSELF NDC IS ROUTED IN VIOLENCE AFTER ALL THEY WHERE BORN OUT OF A REVOLUTIONARY VIOLENCE OF IDIOCY, GREED,ENVY, JEALOUSY, NEPOTISM,HATRED OF OTHER TRIBES AND THOUGHT BY ELIMINATING THE OTHER TRIBES THEY ALONE WOULD PREVAIL HOW WRONG.AFTER RAWLINGS AND HIS COHORTS UNLEASHED THEIR FORM OF UNPRECEDENTED VIOLENCE AGAINST THE AKANS COUPLED WITH THE DESTRUCTION OF THEIR BUSINESSES,TODAY THE AKANS STILL RAISE THEIR HEADS HIGH. OF COURSE THE NDC REVOLUTIONARY SPIRIT IS TO DESTROY AND AKUFFO ADDO IF HAS ABLE RESPONSIBILITIES, IS TO STOP TRAVELLING AND STAY IN GHANA TO WORK ASSIDUOUSLY TO PREVENT NOTHING FOR GOOD NDC TO GAIN A FOOT HOLD ON THE PRESIDENCY AGAIN. AKUFFO ADDO SHOULD AS FROM NOW WORK TO ASK THE ICC TO COME AND HAVE AN OFFICE IN GHANA TO MONITOR ANY IDIOTTT WHO INSTIGATE VIOLENCE FOR ELECTORAL PURPOSES TO BE ARRESTED AND SENT TO DEN HAG TO FACE THE ICC.THIS WILL SERVE AS A DETERRENT TO THE PRONE NDC FAKE REVOLUTIONIST. THESE NDC FOLKS ARE BLOCK HEADED ARROGANT FUUUULSS.
Mahama is not a serious person. If he want to meet Government boot for boot, he must realise that the security agencies will also face him man-to-man. He needs not be reminded that nobody threatens the security agencies.
now everyone will know who this manipulative, conniving violent man who for a long time, has been faking peacemaker for years. Now who for their selfish political ambitions, will incite his followers for war? No onw is condoning to what happened at wuogon, but when did two wrongs make a right? Mahama is just arrogant for acting as if he's already won the flagbearership. We clearly dont want any revolution uprising again because u want to be president. You have been president twice already not to talk of all the political positions you've occupied. How greedy can one person be? A you the only one in ndc? Spio Garbrah and co are there but because of your money, you've bought everyone that can be bought. We cant endure you for a day longer anymore.Shameful
