Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party [NPP], Nana Obiri Boahene says there is nothing wrong with the Electoral Commission [EC's] decision to introduce a limited registration for new voters ahead of the 2020 election without ‘officially’ briefing all relevant stakeholders.
His comment follows on the heels of the rejection by the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] of the EC's proposal to compile a new voters’ register for next year's general elections.
The NDC argued that the matter of the new voters register was just said in passing at an IPAC meeting by the EC Chair without any concrete deliberations.
According to the party, they will resist any attempt by the EC to push the idea of a new register since there are not enough grounds for its creation in the first place.
But speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, Nana Obiri Boahene wondered why the NDC is “crying” over the new voters’ registration.
“So what is wrong if the EC did not tell them?” he questioned
