Member of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Kumbungu constituency, Ras Mubarak has expressed disgust about Parliament's decision to build a 450-seater new Parliament Chamber for Members of Parliament.
According to him, it is a misplaced priority and that government should focus his attention to providing basic amenities for the people of Ghana.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he likened Ghana's Parliament to the Parliament of the Untied Kingdom where they have over 650 members of Parliament but they are able to manage their small chamber.
"You sometimes have over 240 British parliamentarians who will be standing during the period parliament is in session . . . So why are we worrying ourselves over nothing?" he asked.
"Ghanaians in rural areas need basic amenities, so the money used for a new parliament can be used to provide those amenities for them," he added.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye, has unveiled the design of the New Parliamentary Chamber Block.
The unveiling was done during a courtesy call paid by a delegation from the Architectural Firm – Adjaye & Associates.
In attendance, were the Leadership of the House, some members of the Board, the Clerk and other Principal Directors of the Parliamentary Service.
“This key concept is one that depicts the idea of Ghanaian democracy, where Parliament represents a body with various members interlocked in decision making,” he said.
Commenting on the sitting capacity of the model New Chamber Block, the Speaker of Parliament clarified that the 450 seater Chamber did not necessarily mean that the number of Members of Parliament would be increased.
“However, the monumental project is planned to be futuristic and one that will stand the test of time and for posterity,” he asserted.
The new Chamber, with a sitting capacity of about 450 Members of Parliament, would house other facilities including diplomatic offices, a library, a museum, a church, a mosque, eateries, press conference rooms, galleries, a car park, an upper gallery garden, a post office and other facilities to complete the Parliamentary enclave.
The project is expected to start in 2020

What is disgusting about this? How much did your government spend on SADA? Enumerate the profit that was accrued from that investment? Come back to Ablekuma and contest the next election and see where you will be. You oppose to every development project conceived by this government.
Soo Sad. Our MPs are very selfish and inconsiderate, if the chamber is congested why can they run double track system, noonse, with the Gold and Green tracks like is being done in the SHS, why, why, why. Students and parents are struggling with this double track system SHSs and you have money to build what. What are the use of all the money spent on the Job 600 and renovation and furnishing of the Parliament House with those Chiness chairs etc, etc. NPP shine your eyes, else power will elude you
we don't need 275 mps , maximum 150 mps. The guys design is nice but will be difficult and expensive to maintain .
MISPLACE PRIORITIES. Wasn't the current Parliament Chamber recently renovated, capacity increased and furnished with Chinese swivel chairs and equipment? We do not have water to drink in Accra; electricity is a problem, SHS - same, sanitation (basic toilets in Accra) major problem, among many others, and this is what we are spending our scarce resources on. What financial returns will it bring us? especially when we have an existing building that is functioning perfectly.
THE SAD DAY WAS THE DAY THEY ELECTED YOU AS AN MP.IF NOT IN THE NDC, YOU ARE NOT A PARLIAMENTARY MATERIAL. ALL THESE ELEMENTS ARE THERE WASTING THE TAXPAYERS MONEY.
Go and top yourself up then? Hyp0cr1+e. You are a member of a party (NDC) that wasted $3million of taxpayers money on bus branding not to mention a good deal of ***barred word*** and c0rrup+ practices exposed under the same government Ras Mubarak served. And yet you were not sad. If it's that bad please no one is forcing you to be an MP considering you failed in several attempts at different constituencies in Accra only to end in Kumbungu. myopic people like you were "sad" that Nkrumah's government constructed Akosombo, Gihoc and the Motorway then and now look at our pa+hetic self still use them.
