The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says the Ghanaian people will not entrust power into the hands of the opposition National Democratic Congress in 2020 because of their determination to cancel the Free Senior High School policy.
According to President Akufo-Addo, “I know that there are people in this country who don’t want this policy, who have been campaigning against this policy. They are dreaming that they are going to come back to power to cancel the policy.”
He continued, “I want them to know that they are not coming back to power, and the Free Senior High School policy has come to stay. They still haven’t woken up from their dreams; they dreamt in 2016 that they were on course for victory. They did not know that the Ghanaian people were no longer interested in entrusting them with power. They still haven’t woken up from their dreams”.
The President made this known on Tuesday, 13th August, 2019, when he addressed staff and students of the Bolgatanga Senior High School, Bolgatanga, in the Upper West Region, as part of his 2-day working visit to that region.
The 2020 election, President Akufo-Addo stressed, is going to give the Ghanaian people another opportunity to tell the opposition NDC that “they live in another world and we the people of Ghana also live in another world.”
To the critics of the policy, he stated that the most effective answer would be for SHS 3 students, who would be sitting for next year’s WASSCE, to put up a stellar performance in their examination.
“I am confident that the results of those exams next year are going to show that this policy is a good policy for our development. The policy is in your hands and you can demonstrate the quality of the education that you have received by the quality of the results of next year’s exams. I have confidence that the result will be positive and everyone will say, ‘Yes!, it was a good idea to go down this road. Our young men and women are benefiting, and this is the way to go for progress and development,” President Akufo-Addo added
Addressing the concerns of the school, the President indicated that, within the next two weeks, the award of the contract for a new dormitory block and a new classroom will be awarded.
“Some of the things that he wants to have done are going to be the responsibility of the Minister for Education, and that is why he came down today. The bus is the concern of Mr President and that is my personal commitment. Big Boss, very soon, you will get a new bus,” the President said, to a rapturous applause from the students.
With students from SHS 1 to SHS 3 all going to be beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School policy across Ghana, the President indicated that, for the first time in the nation’s history, over 1.2 million students will be enrolled in Free Senior High school education in Ghana.
“These figures have never ever been attained in the history of our country. The Minister for Education has said that enrolment in our senior high schools has gone up by 50% since the policy was introduced and this policy has come to stay,” he added.
On why he is spending a lot of resources on education, President Akufo-Addo explained that “it is better that we spend the money on the future of Ghana, rather than just consuming it and ‘chopping’ the money amongst ourselves. Before I became President, in my campaign I said that I was prepared to use the oil money to educate our children and not to allow it to go into the pockets of politicians and civil servants, and that is exactly what I am doing.”

This wickedd education minister has destroyedd our education system forever 1. Writing examination of the chalkboard 2. New curriculum without textbooks and resources. 3. Double-track system 4. sacking of VC and headteacher for political reasons GOD will punish you and Nana. Occultic people.
It is better to use our resources to educate our children than to pay woyome, sada, gyeeda, bus branding etc. That clueless of a president will never set foot at the jubilee house. The create, loot and share is still freash in our minds. The days days we easily forget Mahamas inflation of cost of helicopter's etc, circle interchange etc is gone forever. Never again.
Nana addo is so interesting. He doesn't even know whose children are benefitting from the free SHS. For all you know majority of these students may have their parents who are card bearing NDC members. It is presumed that most npp faithful are elite and their children may even study abroad, only few may be in free SHS program. Most of these ndc parents will never ask their children to vote for npp, so if the free SHS is for vote, nana addo will be laughing with wrong side of his mouth. How disappointing will it be that despite your so called free SHS students still vote against you.
At least I have come to know one of the #Super_Beings in Ghana/Africa... #H_E_NANA_ADDO_DANKWA_AKUFFO_ADDO. And I am fortunate to be one of his followers 🐘🇳🇱🇬🇭
You are rather living in another world with your deception and lies, also forget about 2020, you will lose miserably.
Mahama and professor kwesi butcher or mahama and professor Alabi Ticket. Sure victory
The president speech reminds me of Sheik IC quaye popular saying ""Nana nana, na shock" keep dreaming and I hope you may not blamed your handlers of misleading u.
Ndc bitting their fingers to see that majority of Nana Addo Ghana children are receiving free SHS education Ndc wins power by rigging and trading lies taken advantage of people's ignorance. Not that the youth are been given free education Ndc tricks are over. The many adverts Ndc made 2008.2012 and 2o16 against free education what has changed. Never has Ndc wished free education well on any platform they always speak against. Now that Ndc know Ghanaians has welcomed free education they are trying to use their cunning crude tactics to bewitch Ghanaians that they are not against free education. Pls Ghanaians are awakened. Period!
I hate when elderly people lie this much. Where has ndc said they will cancel free SHS. This man and his son barwumia can lie too much. It's sad such liars are leading Ghana.
