Special Aide to former President John Mahama, Ms Joyce Bawa-Mogtari, has refuted suggestions by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II that he (the monarch) had to persuade Mr Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 presidential poll when he lost to the then-flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mr Akufo-Addo polled 53.9% of the votes cast in that election while Mr Mahama garnered 44.4%.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II recently told the UN General Assembly that: “At the conclusion of the last presidential and parliamentary elections, the country [Ghana] stood on the edge of disaster”, the revered Asante monarch told the UN General Assembly recently about the important role traditional leaders play in the political and democratic dispensation.
“The UN representatives and the diplomatic community were aghast, alarmed that Ghana was going to slip down the slope of electoral violence.
“Fortunately, the moral authority of the palace was at hand. We were able to intervene to persuade the losing candidate to accept his fate and fly both candidates for a quiet encounter to pave the way for a handover,” recounted Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
However, Ms Bawa-Mogtari said on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Monday, 16 September that: “Under no circumstances did [former] President Mahama require any persuasion”.
She narrated: “[Former] President Mahama placed a phone call to President-elect [Nana Akufo-Addo], [and] congratulated him in a very short conversation”.
She continued: “By the time we were even preparing to receive the announcement from the EC, everybody knew that it was the decision the good people of Ghana had already made and besides, waiting for the formal announcement, there was a need to make contact with the other contestants particularly the president-elect”.

LOOK AT THIS FUUUULLLISH GIRL TOO. GHANA POLITICS HAS BECOME SO CHEAP ALL BECAUSE OF ***barred word*** AND CRIMINAL ndc.
This woman lack wisdom and common sense......
1. Was Mahama prepare to concede defeat in 2016? 2. Why was this dragging of feet by then Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei to declare the winner when all the figure pointed to Akufo Addo as having won the elections? 3. Why was Charlotte Osei quicked to announce Akuffo Addo as the winner few minutes after Mahama called Akufo Addo? 4. What will make Otumfour tell a 'lie' about what actually happened? 5. Does Otumfour have John Mahama's direct phone number or Otumfour was speaking to John Mahama through those issuing statements?? NDC is Ghana's problem no doubt.
It looks like Ex=President Mahama and his NDC got the import of the Otumfuor speech wrong. Otumfuor emphasized about the importance of traditional role in contemporary politics in peace building. He cited from his experience in Ghana as an examples which must be encouraged in other African societies and elsewhere. The challenge from Mahama and NDC is uncalled for. Did Otumfuor and others get involved in elections in Ghana? Yes they do. Did Otumfuor meet NPP and NDC candidates number of times just before and after elections? Yes he did. Was it urgent and necessary for him to do that? Yes it was. Was there any tension in the country which instigated that? Ye it was and many in Ghana expected personalities like Otumfuor to intervene. Did the action of Otumfuor helped . Yes it did greatly. Was it necessary for the story to be told at UN. Yes it was very necessary. UN hopes to encourage others by that story to promote peace in the world. Other institutions were expected to follow that good example. Otumfuor had been invited just to do that. Is NDC right to criticize Otumfuor for his speech at UN. The speech had been made long ago in Ghana by Otumfuor without any reaction. NDC reaction at this time becomes unfair to UN. They acted in bad faith and their reaction is mischievous.
Mahama is Satan
