A Communication Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, is questioning how the government intends to fund the re-registration of SIM cards in the country.
According to Dr Boamah, Ghanaians have been subjected to multiple queuing under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration because policy implementation has not been aligned properly with other ongoing national programmes.
His comment comes after the government, through the Communication Ministry led by sector minister Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, issued a six-month ultimatum to all mobile phone subscribers to re-register their SIM cards with valid national ID cards and other relevant documents or face deactivation by June 2020.
The exercise is expected to begin from 1 January 2020.
Reacting to this development in a Facebook post, Dr Boamah said:
Therefore, the National ID registration process should have been an opportunity to register SIM cards and address other forms of critical Identification and tracking problems.
This would have saved Ghanaians the ordeal of multiple queues and loss of precious time.
Another missed opportunity!
In 2020, Ghanaians will queue to register their SIM cards, queue once again to register as new voters, queue another time to check their names in the new voters register before they queue the fourth (4th) time in the election year to vote in the general elections.
This is the price/punishment a people suffer when policy implementation is not aligned properly with other ongoing national programmes.
Ghana deserves better.

At least for once lets know you are patriotic and a man of substance when it comes to wisdom. If we had this man as a minsiter, why will the country not suffer. Gsrbage
please cut Omane some slack......we are approaching the election season, the name of the game hereon is "catching the ears and eyes"
Do we have any genuine Ghanaian who want Ghana to prosper and still following the NDC, I wonder. Can anybody convince me with just one reason why I must support the NDC
These are the sort of Ministers the NDC used to govern Ghana. Fiifi Kwetey and Haruna were once Agric and Trade & Industries ministers respectively. And Ghanaians saw the outcome of the NDC's governance in 8years. Yet there are selfish, self-seeking, tribalistic Ghanaians still following the NDC. I forgive the illiterates who follow the NDC because they a vulnerable, so they fall for the NDC's deception
Must every initiative by the government be opposed by the opposition NDC. No right thinking Ghanaian takes the NDC serious anymore on any issue. Even the NDC's right criticism is ignored because it's treated as business as usual. The NDC have become jokers ranging from Mahama, Ofosu Ampofo, Akamba, Sammy Gyamfi, Otukunor, Kwaku Boahen, Felix Kwakye, Sam George, Dela, Chief Biney etc. etc.
please,is it true he said that ? former communication minister ? Ghana politics is cheap
No brainer politics
And he was once a deputy at the communications Ministry? If for nothing at all, for security and SIM integrity.
Since when did queuing become a punishment in Ghana? Anyway, for all you know we ordinary Ghanaians queue every day...at the lorry stations, at the hospital, at the DVLA, at the airport, at the chop bar etc. etc. You are among the elite who do not queue for anything, so allow us to continue our queuing. F00000l!sh man.
Oh! I'm the saddest person in Ghana today. So this mindset was in-charge of our Communication Ministry which is the nerve centre of technological applications worldwide. I invite you to the visit NHIS centres and see how dry they are, but for new or first time registrants. The same technolofy can be used to facilitate the re-registration of the SIM cards with particular reference to Ghana CARD which your administration willfully aborted to ensure the continuity of CREATE LOOT and SHARE philosophy. You have made the title doctor ***barred word*** and public reproach. Big time d!sappo!ntment to the medical and intellectual community.
