Mensah Thompson, Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), has taken a jab at the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over his candidature to become the next President of Ghana.
Speaking to host Nana Yaw Kesseh during Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Mensah Thompson blasted Dr. Bawumia describing him as a failed leader and the governing New Patriotic Party for aggravating the plight of Ghanaians.
"As we speak, the number of taxes on fuel prices; about seventeen different taxes on petroleum products. As we speak, we continue to pay COVID tax. We still pay sanitation and pollution tax on petrol . . . 3 years after COVID, we are still paying COVID tax and sanitation and pollution tax . . . and you claim to have done well, so we should clap for you," he said.
He doubted Dr. Bawumia's competence and ability to manage the economy saying, "for the first time under Dr. Bawumia, Ghana is struggling to get an IMF programme . . . It has never happened before. Did we even suffer this much when we were going into HIPC around 2000/2001? Just to secure an IMF programme, Dr. Bawumia cannot deliver . . . Even a common IMF programme, Dr. Bawumia, as the Head of the Economic Management Team, you cannot deliver".
"What message is Dr. Bawumia bringing to campaign for the votes of Ghanaians? What new thing is Dr. Bawumia coming to tell Ghanaians?", he queried.
Also, to him, for the NPP to have a number of candidates contesting to become the party's Presidential candidate shows the party has lost confidence in Dr. Bawumia.
"A sitting Vice President, look at how many people are contesting him. Even his own party doesn't believe him."

***barred word*** talk...... What has securing IMF deal got to do with someone becoming presidential candidate? You are talking like an NDC fanatic. ASEPA my foot.
I listened to this guy on peacefm, and my my my, could not help but notice his emptiness. Politics really blinds us and clouds our intelligence.
Free SHS should extend to adult education. Thompson is a candidate.
He's speaking the absolute truth and you foolsoldiers are doing your worst. You foolsoldiers are not even ashamed to be talking about IMF .. you these same foolsoldiers supported people like the vice president to bash the other like IMF is evil and now that you're there , you can't even see the process and how it goes.. Bawumia, Alan together will be in for a big whip. Some of you think what you defend on here makes a difference.. 2024 is already done and waiting to manifest.
Serious serious this guy be street boy oo,see ein lips, hahaha,ei Gh
Mensah Thompson, you need to come again. Can Bawumia stop anybody from contesting as NPP flag bearer because he's the Vice President? What is democracy about in the first place? To say Bawumia can't even secure an IMF deal shows your lack of understanding in the process. u you failed to tell us how simple the process to secure an IMF deal is and yet Bawumia can't handle it. Tell us how simple the process is. We are waiting.
Silly talk, you are concerned about sanitation/pollution taxes. Have you stopped throwing plastics and other stuffs all over the places. Have you stopped throwing rubbish into drains? Have you stopped throwing Poopo into gutters? In any civilized society, you cannot even urinate outside. You are all part of the problems.
