Algerian referee Mohamed Benouza has been handed the task to officiating the tension-packed Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final match between Ghana and Angola on Sunday.
Benouza, 38, was in Ghana two years ago in his first Nations Cup appearance but officiated in the 2007 Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Canada.
He has been preselected as a referee for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
Ghana are playing Angola for the first time in the last eight of the tournament.
In a related development, Coach Manuel Jose of Angola says his team faces the biggest game in their history when they take on Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final.
The 2010 hosts reached the last eight in Ghana two years ago, and also made it to the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, but Sunday's showdown at Luanda's 11 November stadium is on a higher plane, according to the Portuguese manager.
Speaking in Luanda on Saturday, Coach Jose declared, "In Ghana we reached the same position, but tomorrow is different, we're playing in front of our home fans, and we have a good chance of reaching the semi-finals."
"Massive Protection For Ghana Fans"
Meanwhile, the Local Organizing Committee for the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola have agreed to provide maximum protection for the Ghanaian fans who will be at the Estadio 11 Novembro for Sunday's quarter-final match.
Ghana play Angola but their fans are cringing in fear they could be attacked if results to not go the way of the hosts.
The build-up to the game has been dominated by allegations of subtle intimidation by the Angolan security forces.
"We met with the officials and they agreed to provide maximum security for our fans from their residence to the hotel and back...We have told our fans to behave and not to carry any inflammatory material to the stadium-just to be on a safer side," Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi told Ghanasoccernet.com
Last Tuesday, a Ghanaian fan, Obour, was physically assaulted-he suffered damages to his rib and genital.
Also on Friday, a Ghanaian journalist was beaten up by security forces at the team's Hotel de Presidente base.
