John Paintsil has declared himself surplus to requirement ahead of the Black Stars date with Egypt in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Kumasi next month.
The Stars are two games away from the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and club-less Paintsil told GNA Sports I will not be part of the team to play against Egypt. Currently, I am still looking for a club and even if I get involved with one before the games, I do not think I will be ready.
Ghana will host Egypt on Sunday, October 13, in the first leg in Kumasi before trekking Egypt for a return leg which could determine which of the two teams pick one of Africas slots for the quadrennial gathering of 32 teams.
Paintsil claimed to be on the radar of many European clubs and could seal a switch well in time for the World Cup.
I have offers from many European clubs and I am confident I will join one soon. It is a little difficult when you are a free agent because it makes the process longer. But things are looking good right now, he said.
When quizzed on whether he had pondered retirement in the face of his inactiveness, the defender capped 88 times told GNA Sports I still feel very sharp physically at the moment and I plan to keep going till I no longer feel strong enough.
He poured scorn on media reports linking him to Asante Kotoko; insisting, Kotoko is a very great club and we all know that. But joining the local league now has not crossed my mind.
Paintsil has not played for the Black Stars since February following the teams abortive fifth Nations Cup glory in South Africa where Mali piped Ghana to bronze.
