General captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan says the Black Stars deserved better than their Round of 16 exit at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana exited this year’s Africa Cup of Nations following a 5-4 defeat on penalties to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Monday night at the Ismailia Stadium.
According to the Kayserispor poacher, the team played very well on the day and did not deserve to be eliminated at the round of 16 stage.
“For the past 8 years we have been to the semi-finals and it’s rather unfortunate we have been eliminated that early. We are sad. We don’t deserve that but this is football”.
“The host nation has gone home and this is football for you. There were so many countries that were underestimated but now people have to respect what football is about. You cannot underestimate any country because everybody is improving in football”, the Kayserispor striker indicated.
Ghana has now failed to clinch the continental trophy for the past 37 years. The last time they conquered the continent was way back in 1982 when the tournament was hosted in Lybia.

Coach Appiah has been giving so many opportunities and so many second chances to succeed but to no avail. Remember, since 2014 as an assistant coach to coach Milo but still struggling to get his first eleven. He has represented Ghana as a coach of the Black stars on so many occasions but failed to win a trophy. All that we hear from Black Stars camp was fighting with the players, benching senior players to kill their careers by allowing average players to play instead. benching senior players for the opposing team to get tired before using the experience players. His call ups are questionable. For instance, going to AFCON you need goal scorers why left out John Antwi {Goalking in Egypt where the tournament itself is going to take place} What about Yiadom Boakye and on top benched Asamoah Gyan whom most soccer nations fear[At least earlier in the second half] Square pegs in round holes? How can you change a captain before a big tournament? Technically, this should have been done long time ago or after the tournament. Coach Appiah is not the only Ghanaian coach to be pampered. There are so many coaches like coach Tanko, coach Tetteh with track record or get a foreign coach and use these two guys as his assistants. How come coach Appiah allowed a fresh man like Caleb Ekuban to take a penalty whiles the experienced players are there? His inability to read a game is one of coach Appiah's weakest link. How come he did not prepare a goalkeeper for the penalty kicks? Let's put Ghana first, Coach Appiah must resign or be fired
Liar, you were even there for too long for you were not qualified to go there in the first place. People/ players who deserve to be are still there as at today playing the semi finals. You people have outlived your usefulness if any. The soccer team in my village could have done better, a whole national football team with no player who can be relied upon, all the countries had players who can be said to be 'game changers' except Ghana, Mohammed Polo, Mohammed Choo, Opoku Afriyie, Adolf Armah, Opoku Nti, John Bannerman,Kofi Abbrey, Albert Asaase, Papa Arko, George Ahlassan, Ofei Ansah, Addae Kyenkyenhene, Haruna Yussif, George Lamptey, Peter Lamptey, Joseph Carr, Mohammed Odoom, Edward Ansah, Seth Ampadu, Ernest Apau, Hesse Odamtten, Francis Kumi, Yahaya Kassim, should be sad now for handing over the black stars to young men of today who are half baked and yet call themselves stars.Shiiiaaaaa.
tell us why the coach didn't use you and kwadwo asamoah. akwasi appiah wasn't of himself. he allowed certain characters to dictate for him.
