Some answers attached to the recent mock Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) questions in the Volta Region were said to be wrong.
A group of students of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC at the Evangelical Presbyterian University College (EPUC) made the allegation at the end of a one month voluntary teaching session in the Akatsi-North District.
Mr. Felix Nyarko, leader of the group, told a farewell meeting organized by the District Assembly that care must be taken to ensure that answers to the mock questions were correct to ensure that the candidates were prepared thoroughly for the real examination.
He said the group also observed that students did not understand topics treated in the English Language unless these were explained in the local language.
It was also observed that parents in the area were not interested in the academic work of their children.
Mr. Nyarko said there were no role models in the communities to inspire pupils because teachers allegedly refused to stay in those communities.
Mr. James Gunu, Akatsi North District Chief Executive, commended the group and assured that steps were being taken to address educational bottlenecks in the area.
Mr. Alfred Awunyo, District Teacher Welfare Officer, said the work of the volunteers was crucial given the huge teacher deficit in the district.
