The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that information circulating on social media that an anti-malaria drug causes kidney failure and withdrawn from the EU market The statement the list of anti-malaria drugs circulating on social media cannot be found in the European Medicine Agency as registered products for the EU because is rare there.
The statement therefore asked the general public to disregard the circulation and threat with the contempt it deserves.
The FDA the statement noted periodically samples and performs analysis of anti-malarial in its ISO accredited laboratory to ensure they are of the right quality.
The statement said: ‘’the general public is therefore advised to disregard the information and continue to use artimisinin combination therapy as being administered under the National Malaria Control Programme.’’
