The pro-NDC newspapers appear to be turning the heat on members of their own profession now. The latest butt of their attack is none other than the number one Kokrokoo show presenter on Peace FM, Kwami Sefa Kayi, popularly known as Chairman, whose catch-phrase is soldering for God and country.
Yesterday, a pro-NDC newspaper, the Daily Democrat used Sefa-Kayi and Kwaku Baakos photos in connection with a story alleging a $2000-each-deal which was struck between some selected media houses and the former NPP administration over the GT- Vodafone sale.
But the managing editor of the Daily Democrat newspaper, Emmanuel Opare later explained to Peace FM that the photos were used only because the two media practitioners happen to be famous in media circles. This morning, another pro-NDC newspaper, the Weekly Standard, also carried a lead story captioned "Kwami Sefa Kayi Is My Sworn Enemy Declares Kennedy Agyapong".
According to the paper, the Assin North MP, Hon. Kennedy Adjapong had revealed to them that Sefa-Kayi had demanded GH45,000 (450million cedis) bribe from the then Independent parliamentary candidate for Nkawkaw, Hon. Seth Adjei Baah, alias Shaaba during the period of the 2008 general elections, for the services of using his popular programme, "Kokrokoo" to help him win the election.
... Lost Professionalism?
The paper further reported that Hon. Adjapong had told them that Sefa Kayi was invited by President Kufuor on his World Bank meetings trips abroad, which to him was unprofessional and that was one of the factors that contributed to NPPs loss in the last general elections.
Reacting to the story on Peace FM, Hon Adjapong confirmed that Shaaba told him that Sefa Kayi demanded 450million cedis from him to make him popular through his Kokrokoo show to help him win the election.
According to him, Shaaba told him this when they met at Parliament House and that was where the editor of the Daily Democrat eavesdropped on that conversation. Kennedy Agypong however denied the papers headlined which read that Kwami "Is His Sworn Enemy".
He stated, "I never said Kwami is my enemy and I wouldnt do that, I was just surprised at the allegation by Shaaba and was discussing it with my colleagues." Speaking on the same programme, Shaaba, who Sefa Kayi is alleged to have demanded money from said I dont remember Kwami demanding money from me and never have I told Kennedy anywhere that Kwami has demanded money from me, its a lie.
Okamafo Asamadi Addo who published the said story insisted that the Assin North MP did say categorically that Kwami is his sworn enemy and that he had a recording of the conversation in his possession. When the MP insisted he play the said tape, he refused, saying he wouldn`t be cajoled to do so.
Kwami Sefa Kayi however dismissed the allegation, declaring "Im putting it on record that, I have never extorted or attempted to extort money from anybody, be it Seth Adjei Baah, alias Shaaba or anybody to promote his or her political ambitions.
