President John Mahama has announced that cabinet is considering a draft Bill that would enhance the performance of the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO.
The Bill, he said, proposes the establishment of a National Disaster Management Fund and the transformation of the organization into a National Disaster Management Service, which would be given some enforcement powers.
President Mahama gave the hint, in an address read on his behalf by the Deputy Minister for the Interior, James Agalga, at the opening of a two-day national conference for regional and disaster Co-ordinators of NADMO in Tamale.
The participants are to review the organization�s efforts at managing disasters in the country.
President Mahama said government would ensure that conditions of service in the organization are reviewed to meet the extra demand.
The National Co-ordinator of NADMO, Kofi Portuphy also stressed the importance of a fund to enable the organization to finance its operations in disaster management.
