Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Ocquaye has said it is palpably false that Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah founded independent Ghana.
The History Professor argues that crediting the Independence of Ghana to Nkrumah alone is wrong, indicating that the Independence struggle was not championed by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as has been the perception.
Speaking at an IEA event of a documentary on the political history of Ghana between 1844 and the Fourth Republican Constitution, Prof. Mike Ocquaye condemned the current history curriculum, describing it as misleading.
“We are not certain apparently about anything, including our GDP, Tema Oil Refinery Debt; Vital statistics that are simple to ascertain in many parts of the World. And this has been an unfortunate aspect of our history, so much so that today we celebrate one Founding Father, which is palpably false. We have founding fathers. I will like to see Nkrumah celebrated by way of a holiday, as the First President. President who had a lot of vision, in terms of education, health, African Unity and so many other ares of our national development, but definitely not as a founder of this nation because its palpably false. And it pains me particularly that we should teach our children such false history. I look for the day where the Founder’s Day will be with the apostrophe after the ‘s’ and we shall all celebrate those who really together founded this nation including Kwame Nkrumah.”
But the National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party(CPP), Prof. Edmund Delle has refused the views of the Speaker, insisting that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah led the charge for Ghana’s Independence and must not be denied the due recognition.
He accused critics of being selective with the facts, vowing that the CPP, founded on the ideals of Nkrumah will resist attempts to rewrite the history.

You see People turn to be biased without realizing that they are being biased and therefore missing equally very important facts. Because they are too consumed or obsessed by their thinking and reasoning to express their appreciation where, when it is deserved and due. I accept Nkrumah was politically prepared in his own right and had made his mark before he came to Ghana per invitation. Hence he was entrusted with fulltime secretarial and organizational position to pursue the independence course, a common course shared by those who invited him. Therefore, there was no doubt that his intellectual capability and political acumen were not underrated. It isIndeed, important to note that, the inviters were intellectually, politically and unilateral to appreciate that Nkrumah was fit for the Job. They were, however sidelined by Nkrumah, because Nkrumah was too ambitious and authoritative, rigid in his course to handle or be engaged in any intellectual discourse. He was strategic, ambitiousand not diplomatic that was why he somehow along the line, failed in his course, but not in terms of attaining independence per se. Indeed, he couldn't have just coped with Busia , and the Big 6, because he believed he knew his audience better than they did, when he came to Ghana. He spoke the language they understood, mobilized veranda boys into politics and they voted him into power. Whilst Busia and Danqwa were enjoying theirold Oxford life in Ghana (Kweison Sackey).Nkrumah never thought of working with those who invited him to Ghana, though they had the same goal to attain Independence for Ghana. If all those brains who saw the need forour independence at the time, were not sidelined and allowed to contribute in their diverse opinions with the aim of arriving at a consensus, we could have made the best out of our independence .One man show was a flop.
@ROX So what if they can be traced??? They cant air their opinions?? R u serious??? MTcheeeew!!!
Koliko and Eric, how old are you? PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF YOUR UTTERANCES AND DON'T THINK SITTING BEHIND YOUR PC's doesn't mean you can't be traced
Thé way thé Progrèss Party issued thé idict to burn and destroy all thé books of KWAME NKRUMAH even did not change the history of Ghana. KWAME NKRUMAH NEVER DIES. ALL thèse infraction would end in ABSURDITY.

PROF. QUAYE, LISTEN HAD IT NOT BEEN THE VISION OF DR. KWAME NKRUMAH, PROBABLY, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE HAD ANY FORMAL EDUCATION. DR. KWAME NKRUMAH WAS OUR FOUNDING FATHER. DO NOT STAND UP AND ***barred word*** DISTORT OUR NATIONAL HISTORY. WHEN DID YOU EVER WRITE ANY ACADEMIC LITERATURE TO GHANAIANS ABOUT THE FOUNDING FATHER OR FATHERS OF OUR NATION ? ARE YOU NOW COMING OUT WITH SOMETHING OF THE SORT ? KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND DO NOT BRING DIVISION INTO OUR NATIONAL FABRIC. WITH WHAT YOU CLAIM TO HAVE GAINED IN ACADEMIA, WHAT HAVE GHANAIANS GAINED FROM YOU ?
I have never liked this Ga Professor who is now the speaker of Parliament. He represents the thinking of NPP in everything.
