The Ghana Education Service (GES) has sacked two Senior High School headmasters for extorting money from students despite strict directives from the Ministry of Education not to do so.
The Ministry had warned school heads to desist from charging students under the Free SHS programme.
However, reports that emerged after the programme commenced indicated that some school authorities were charging unapproved fees.
Subsequently, some school heads were invited by the GES to answer questions regarding the allegation.
In a statement signed by the Director General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa the two headmasters: Mr Biasu Wisdom of Pentecost SHS and Assistant Headmaster of Daffour SHS, Rev. S.P. Elewokor are ‘relieved’ of their post.
The headmaster of Duffour SHS, Mr. S.C.K Agbakey, will be reprimanded for failing to supervise his subordinate the statement further indicated.
Meanwhile, seven others are to be interdicted pending further investigations into the allegation against them.

Please, the headmasters in our school(SUTESCO) are saying we the form three students who didnt attend the vacation classes are to pay the classes fee before we will be registered and i want to know where its allowed
All this confirm that a change is uncomfortable. Exploitation, extortion and opportunisms are the pattern of life for a many a people in Ghana. It is a laissez faire system; you can do whatever it takes to loot and nothing happens; some of the people have observed. The new system is being testing for resilience and capacity. Should they succeed then it means the future of it is a forgone conclusion and the old ways will continue with impunity. This is absolutely a diabolic system testing behaviours by some faceless individuals whose minds are clouded in self-interest pursuits. Nana Addo’s government indeed has a lot to contend with and these must be dealt with swiftly and determinedly else all that have initiated would tantamount to collecting water only to pour into and pit: a sheer waste of all forms of hard won resources. Keep being vigilant! And mount up your surveillance cameras. Ghana forge on with genuine possibilities and never get distracted by the few wicked ones! God be with you all in Ghana. Advise from the south, south of the world.
They're just evil. they want to pull the foresight of the Father of the nation
Sack them all. Disgruntled headmasters/headmistresses, formal Ministers girlfriends in gov't bungalows, Police bribe takers and now housing and construction should at the matter of urgency start constructing DEEP GUTTERS and cover them for free flow to prevent flood. Ghana will surely work again ARISE ALL PEOPLE!
These are saboteurs, nation wreckers, enemies of progress, anti FREE SHS elements. Just a week before the implementation, a seminar was organised for all heads of government assisted second cycle institution at Ho. They were well briefed so what happened? Whether NAGRAT, GHAT Progressive etc they want to ROCK THE BOAT. PLEASE DEAL WITH THEM.THE YENTIE OBIAA ATTITUDE MUST STOP ONCE AND FOR ALL.
I listened to the GNAT or NAGRAT spokesperson on the issue of the dismissed Head Masters and it was as best nauseating. Ghana has descended so low in our national conscience and morality that we easily jump to support, plead on behalf or at worst threaten authority for doing what they have been mandated to do, ie govern the nation to the benefit of all Ghanaians. The other day, it was Freight Forwarders who threatened if the Paperless system was not suspended. Other times it was protest against the eviction of squatters who have taken over every inch of space in our towns and cities. Then there was the protests and demonstrations plus threats of Galamseyers, not to talk of the linching of a military officer. Today, it is threats for the dismissal of Head Masters who have flouted the explicit instructions of their employer, GES. What society at all do we want to build for ourselves and the next generation?
TThe GES must keep on with this vigilante exercise of sacking recalcitrant Headmasters. To prevent sabotage of the program and ensure it's success. This matter of the children of the middle class including Medical Doctors, Businessmen , Accountants, Lecturers and the affluent in society also receiving free SHS, don't they equally pay taxes like all ordinary people? In fact if you ask the Ghana Revenue Authority they will tell you that the rich actually pay more taxes than the ordinary Ghanaian. So their kids also equally must enjoy free SHS.
Not in this competent NPP Government. You will be sanctioned if you don't do the right thing.
dont f.u.c.k with my minister ooooo. Next presidential candidate after NANA. we are behind u boss. sack anyone who wants to be a stumbling block on ur way. selfish headmasters
This money chopping will NOT flourish in this Government as it was done JDM time. However say this policy will NOT favour poor families is also another human being. listen to what KOFI ADAMS of NDC said "Whoever Denounces Free SHS Is A 'Classless Witch' – Kofi Adams Whoever will openly say he or she doesn’t support this free SHS policy for first (1st) to third (3rd) students is a witch, I mean a witch with no class. The policy is a good one”. @NYANSA NI and @Dragon listen and reason
