Former head of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr Emile Short, is advocating the appointment of the Special Prosecutor to be done through an application process openned to the public.
In Mr Short’s view, such a system will be more transparent and devoid of any biases, which can be associated with getting an individual to fill the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
On Tuesday, January 2, 2018, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave assent to the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act passed by Parliament last year.
The next process is the appointment of the official and Mr Short insists the best way is to allow the public to apply and shortlisted candidates presented to the President for the selection of the first Special Prosecutor.
“This position should be advertised so that people can apply and then you set up a committee to interview the applicants and then maybe you shortlist about three names, give these names to the President and the President appoints one of those three,” he told Accra-based Joy FM in an interview.

I am getting tired of reading about and seeing the face of Emile Short everyday. It's very surprising that the very quiet, silent and often al0of looking Emile Short during the Rawllings and subsequent NDC government era has all of a sudden found the need to comment on every issues. Please keep your mouth shut wai! Well said ONIPANUA
AABA!!! WHY MR. SHORT. WHICH IS MORE CONTROVERSIAL: THE APPOINTMENT OF THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OR THE APPOINTMENT OF THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR?? IF A PRESIDENT CAN CONVENIENTLY APPOINT THE EC CHAIR, HE SHOULD BE ABLE ALSO TO APPOINT THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR...JUST THAT CARE MUST BE TAKEN IN THE CHOICE HE MAKES.
If the President can appoint the Chief Justice and the Speaker of Parliament, who are the other arms of government what prevents him for appointing the special Prosecutor whose position is inferior to those mentioned above? You people read too much politics into everything. The vision and aspiration of the special prosecutor position cannot be diluted with any politically motivated beliefs, actions and in-actions one may have. Kindly leave the President to roll out his vision!
Do you have any sense in your head at all?
PLEASE THIS ONE DE3 NOOOOO.SO THAT INCOMPETENT MAHAMA AND HIS GUYS CAN APPLY.
