Ace Ghanaian undercover investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyaw Anas nearly died with his colleagues during his latest undercover piece “Malawi’s Human Harvest”
In a teaser of the video which has been released by the BBC, the journalist and his colleagues are heard screaming for help which seems to suggest they have been attacked by one of their targets in the course of investigations.
The investigative story for the BBC according to MyNewsGh.com checks sought to unravel the issues surrounding the mysterious deaths of many in Malawi for ritual purposes triggered a mob in a Malawian village to resort to killing the investigative reporter and his crew.
The story, which airs today on the BBC’s Africa Eye network and the Facebook page would see the reporters digging deep into the dark world of the killers and capturing chilling footage of alleged murderers.
The details of how the townsfolk nearly killed the reporters would be live on the BBC today for African viewers.
Popularly known as Muhti, human bodies are harvested and dismembered to supply powerful people in society. These human body parts are believed to possess some abilities to make people not just rich, but also very powerful in the Malawian and Tanzanian societies.
In this epic investigative film, Mathias Kamanga a Malawian, claims to have a deep working knowledge of the human body based Muhti and “blood-sucking”. He says, between himself and his associate Njuku Mpata (also known as Joseph Mwakigunga), they have killed 12 people including children as young as five. He tells us Anas the last victim was a boy aged ten. He says he removed the child’s tongue and penis; all for the purpose of supplying human body Muhti.
Also, in partnership with Mpata, Kamanga, he explains how he sucked blood from a number of people (some of whom, he suggests, subsequently died), and that he offered, in exchange for six million Kwacha, to supply three human body parts and human blood for the purposes of making human body Muhti for a man called Prince Asamoah, who in fact was our undercover reporter Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Additionally, Kamanga offered to show Prince Asamoah how he kills a person and then dismembers them. He tells us that pieces of bone at his shrine were parts of a human skull belonging to a person he had killed.
To prove his credentials, Kamanga gave us details, including names, of six people he and Mpata claim to have killed. We investigated the fate of those six people. One was dead, and two were missing. We were unable to establish any outcome for the remaining three.

I watched the film and there was something seriously amiss. The camera was stable throughout and portions of the film where there was the supposed chaos and attempted lynching was repetitive suggesting that this is a greatly edited film with lots of cut and paste portions. If the person with the hidden camera also was part of the team how come during the supposed scuffle the camera was still stable and upright. If her was being beaten or man-handled at least the camera will be shaking and showing things in a haphazard manner. The whole thing and concept is amateurish. If you have a clue where the murderers are and you have been there to see human parts at the first instance what evidence again do you want before you allow the police to come unto the picture. The whole thing is silly. you do not need to get someone to be killed by them before you make a case. at the end of the day the people turned to be wiser than the Anas team. The suspected Anas and his team but the played along and then set them up. Because if they are sitting their somewhere and you come to them to ask them to kill some one then you the one coming to them is a criminal. That is why they brought the crowd to ambush them. Bottom line this whole approach to investigations is to simplistic and amateurish and to say the least childish.
But Do you solve one problem by creating another? Would u have sacrificed yourself to that effect? Think through!
does i care? who send am? no be that us3l3ss bbc? thank God he did not die bcos we are not done with him yet. this is a damage control stage manage film. anyone who trust this guy really needs to check himself well.
Didn't the BBC leave you to your fate when you needed them most and denied working with you.. be careful with them.
I will suggest You start going undercover with CID’s for your safety Anas. God be with you and your crew.
@Anane, I don't think kwabena is blaming ken for the mishaps that are coming the way of Anas. From his piece, I believe, he was reiterating that the unfortunate incidents on Salinko (if that truely happened) and the alleged attempt on the life of Anas in his latest expose' should not be attributed to Ken. Anas' investigative methodology always exposes him to danger . Linking salinko's incident to Ken should be treated with the contempt that it deserves.
@kwabena, no Ghanaian ll mistake salinko for Anas. we know Anas very well. Again, don't blame Ken cos if Anas hasn't done anything krimina, Ken wldnt have got anything to show. how can Anas bribe people, video them and show it to the public for money, calling them as corrupt and he himself goes to collect bribe in a worst manner?
A few weeks ago, a Ghanaian commedian, Salinko was reported to have been poisoned because he is alleged to be an 'Anas look alike'. This look alike phenomenom stem from some pictures that Kennedy Agyapong showed on his Tv station which he alleged to be Anas. I dont suppose that this unfortunate incident if it is true, would be directed to Ken's vigourous condemnation of anas methodology which has caught the world's attention. In short this story should not be used to court sympathy for Anas. Anas investigative methodology has always been dangerous. Remember, he said he had to run away for his life from Cote D'ivoire after doing an investigative piece (the Bole Rebo Raid) in which former prez Mahama was his camera man.
for all u know anas was not initially part of this investigation. they may just have brought him in to help him get his lost credibility. BBC's only interest in Africa is to destroy the continent through the projection of bad news. Anas is a good fit for them and they will do everything to get him to work for them. this is just a way to show him he still have their support but trust me nobody was nearly linched. i have always said the problem we have in this world is the media. bcos they are the ones that go and bring us stories we can not immediately verify. but we have the option to be critical at the information they bring to us. we dont have to believe everything they bring to us like some ple are doing here. the media men and women are the ple causing all the problems in our society today for their selfish interest. in Anas case if this is true, then let me assure Anas that he will not die but will leave to face the shame that awaits him.
this guy thinks he is a smart cr1m1nal. this is a stage managed incidence just to win the ple's sympathy. i am very happy that some ple have seen how crooked this guy is. this guy can go any length just to get the public to 4get his corrupt activities. well he can deceive those who wants to be deceived but not me. i am too smart to follow this dumb guy. why is that he never showed the hazards he encountered in his previous investigations but now he sees the need to show it? guys u need to think. he is looking for cheap sympathy. i will never wish him dead rather i want him to leave and suffer the same fate he has put others to.
