So there is no day we wake up and not hear accidents claiming dear lives of Ghanaians. What is happening in this country. Gas explosion, mine collapse, numerous vehicular accidents etc. What country is this? Good roads accidents, bad roads accidents! What nation are we building. Come with legislation to ameliorate these, stakeholders will threatened government - toothless and I don't care Ghanaian politicians because of vote will not have confidence to enforce the laws even if they are able to make one. Why should a gas station be put up in a residential area? Who gave them the permit to start their operations? Are the people operating these stations trained to invoke measures to stop these accidents to minimize the damages including lives of citizens? Why should a truck laden with cement get a broken part causing the driver to loose control and kill 5 innocent children walking to school? bring a law to stop these carnages and out of a blue an association in the name Truck Drivers association will spring up and organize demonstration and threaten government of votes. Are we in a jungle or in an acephalous state? I don't think we hear much of these in emerging societies like in Cote d'Ivoire and other neighboring countries of Ghana. I have spent my adult life staying in different countries in the world, especially countries that are coming out of conflicts. I rarely hear accidents like this. The distance between Goma and Kigali is one of the most circuitous and dangerous routes in the world. Hardly do you see accidents on this stretch of road. Drivers are careful and also maintains their vehicles because any problem on your part especially over speeding will be recorded and a ticket issued to you. These are captured in all post offices and banks. It is up to you to go and pay a hefty fine the very first day or pay fines which grows in arithmetic progression. Your find yourself in jail when the police search for you for absconding. In Kosovo and East Timor, even when law and order had broken down, police made sure that the citizens are protected from scourge of accidents. Let us try to be law abiding and save the future generation. I cry for my beloved country Ghana.
