The Member of Parliament [MP] for Kwadaso constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr Samiu Kwadwo Nuamah has asked that the mode of awarding contracts and paying contractors changes for the benefit of all.
According to him he will not blame any government or Ministry for awarding bloated contracts.
Discussing the re-development of the Kejetia market on UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ programme, Dr. Nuamah said “our mode of contract awarding terms will at all cost increase price of projects embarked on, because for one to work and wait to be paid years after work done is not an easy experience . . . they cannot bill government with actual prices of materials needed to get work done on the projects awarded.”
“Indeed what I will suggest is that government must cultivate a habit but lawful way of paying contractors as early as work is done if not before they start work,” he said.
He confessed that government finds it difficult to fulfill most campaign promises due to some of these inconveniences, which could be changed for the best.
