Member of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] communication team, Fred Agbenyo has stated that reporting to the Assembly man of every area when one misplaces his Ghana Card will be an effective way of getting a new one than reporting to the police station.
He is of the view that reporting misplaced cards to the police station will not yield results, because already there is pressure at our various police stations.
He added that most Ghanaians do not even like the idea of going to the police station, not to talk of reporting a misplaced card.
“ . . I believe reporting misplaced Ghana Cards to Assembly men in our communities will make it easier in getting a new one that reporting it to the police station which is already piled up with duties,” he said on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ panel discussion segment.
Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof Ken Attafuah, on Tuesday, in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi, urged Ghanaians to report to the police station anytime they lose their Ghana card.
"If you lose your card, report to the police, indicate how it got missing and then you will be given a police extract which will then be taken to the NIA. They (NIA) will then conduct an investigation and after being satisfied, they will go ahead to issue a new card for you at a fee . . ." he indicated.
But the NDC Communicator seems not in agreement with that proposition. To him, most of the country's "remote communities do not even have easy access to police stations as they are far away from where they reside".

This NDC guys are loosing it, why would you report a missing ID card to an assembly man? what record does an assembly man keep? Aah Fred, do you have to oppose everything because of the name opposition given to you? aahba.
Seriously if the likes of Agbenyo are the options e have to the current government the the nation is in trouble. Ho could this guy even perceive this let alone to suggest same on radio with such large listener-ship? Does he know the security implication of losing an ID card? Someone could simply commit a crime and leave your lost ID on the scene just to impersonate you and hen you are arrested, you bring your assembly man as an alibi. Please get serious...
Prof. Attafuah's assertion that missing Ghana cards should be reported to the police is spot on. This is a norm everywhere in the world. If you lose your property, do you report to Assembly man as Fred Agbenyo of NDC is suggesting? We report missing items to the police to find them for us. It can be potential criminal activity by the one who is pretending that he has lost his/her and so police should handle it and asked the person where, when and how it got lost. This record must be kept so that if someone use the card to commit a crime, the true owner who lost his card is not arrested. I feel sorry for these NDC guys and doubt whether they think before saying something. They always get things wrong or it is intentional?
