Former President Jerry John Rawlings has in a characteristic June 4 address called for an urgent review of the Fourth Republican constitution to remove entrenched clauses that protect high-level political actors and embolden some of them to abuse their office and criminally profit from their positions.
Delivering the keynote address at a parade, wreath-laying and durbar to climax activities marking the 40th anniversary of the June 4 uprising at Nungua on Tuesday, the architect of the uprising said there are many constitutional clauses that do not serve our interest and called for an urgent establishment of a constituent assembly to review them.
“Over the years the indemnity clauses have emboldened certain characters to abuse their offices and profit themselves. The constitution of the Fourth Republic was created by us, for us and to serve us, and in light of the 25 years, there is an unqualified need to reform or rewrite our current constitution. An urgent constituent assembly ought to be established with the necessary powers to rewrite the constitution.”

WHY DOES HE STILL CELEBRATE THIS DAY? I FEEL LIKE HE IS CELEBRATING HIMSELF MORE SO THAN THE DAY ITSELF. OH WELL, HE HAS SOME PEOPLE WITH SO MUCH TIME ON THEIR HANDS FOLLOWING HIM TO CELEBRATE, SO I DON'T BLAME HIM AT ALL.
Rawlings is talking ***barred word*** because he has the backing of the present administration because of the massive help. Unlike ex president kuffour and atta miils who are disciplined and fought their own way. This makes akuffo addo a toothless bull dog, he cannot do shiiit. hence reason why akuffo cannot even discipline his own men when they go wrong and always lying.I still hope the families of the executed military offices will one day rise to the occasion and correct the bias and deceitful impression. Just like what the daughter of Odartey did. Ghanaians should encourage the families to come publicly and share what they went through. If Nana can buy land at one cedi per plot and that is not corruption. if someone father christmas can sponsor education of children overseas and that is not corruption then only heavens will tell
Rawlings has lost relevance in Ghanaian politics and I wished he was given the opportunity in court to justify the people he killed. May be the tide should turn and we will see how it feels like for one to lose all his parents.
Those who are defending the killing of some Ghanaians for corrupt practices are now seeking refuge in court against corrupt charges. Why were the killed not given the opportunity in court to also seek refuge? This is not unfair and undemocratic.
