The absence of Charles Bissue is affecting the fight against galamsey according to Ekow Ewusi, leader of the Anti Galamsey Taskforce of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.
Charles Bissue, Presidential staffer and General Secretary to the Inter-ministerial committee stepped aside when he was captured reportedly collecting bribe in a galamsey expose put together by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Mr Bissue in the video was captured among other government officials receiving various sum of money to facilitate processes and provide security for a mining company.
He has however denied this allegation.
“I would like to state at the outset that I am innocent of the allegations levelled against me in the documentary, as I was not and have not been engaged in any act of corruption, criminality or misconduct. However, in the interest of transparency and accountability, and so not of compromise the work of the IMCIM, I have informed President Akufo-Addo, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Chairperson of the IMCIM of my decision to step aside from my position pending investigation into the issue,” he indicated in a statement.
Ekow Ewusi speaking on Friday's edition of Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', also said the absence of Mr Bissue has increased the workload on Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
"...all the work is now on the Minister...those conducting the investigation should let Ghanaians know if he is innocent or not; so that he can come back to work or a different person appointed. Prof Frimpong is suffering…so the investigators should let us know how far they’ve gone with this Charles Bissue issue" he requested.

@Blueprint I couldn't agree more! They have refused to release the report submitted by the CID exorating the affable and incorruptible Mr. Bissue. The criminal Anas and cohorts didn't understand the processes thereby deceiving the good people of Ghana. #BringBackBissue
How come two state institutions investigate the same allege case, is this not amounting to double jeopardy? By the way, Ghanaians are interested in seeing the report after the so called gallamsay fraud. We want see the report now and now!!!!! #BringBackBissue
I am so disappointed in some of my own party leaders. Bissue is corrupt and is being investigated, so why should Ekow Ewusi say such a criminal should still had been at post. A lot of Ghanaians are observing us closely. Everything we do will come back to haunt us in 2020. Can you imagine what will happen to us if nana addo still insist Bissue should be on the galamsey taskforce? This kind of statement get people angry with our government. Some of us are also here, that nana addo can consider.
Ghana is indeed a failed state, no wonder a minister will communicate such crapppp. Kofi wayo is 100% right when he said those at the presidency have no idea what idea what it means by governance. The president is fake in so many aspects. so what should ghanaians expect
Ghanaians???? oooh!!!!
You see why we are not wise? A population of of 30 million people cannot find one competent person to run an office? And Professor Frimpong Boateng wanted to the President of this country? This galamsey fight was suppose to be one of the greatest achievements of this government but they are toying with it. Akufo Addo thinks he has already won 2020 and he is being complacent...Yoo. We all saw what happened to Mahama in 2016. Nana would rather attend unnecessary conferences and pretending everything is alright but it is not. Insecurity, Crime, unemployment are still a concern for many Ghanaians. You were elected to work for Ghanaians, so please work for us and stop this aristocratic style of governance. You are lucky the NDC is not a serious party otherwise you would have lost 2020.
This is the most ridiculous explanation I have heard about the fight against galamsey that seems unsuccessful. Charles Bissue is criminal who is under investigation, in fact, he is even still a presidential staffer, so how can someone say that such a thieff leaving the scene is hurting galamsey fight. I think whoever is giving this explanation is doing so because the kickbacks and bribes are not coming like when Charles Bissue the thieff was there.
I listened to the explanation for Prof Frimpong on his own and suffering and therefore unable to curb and completely stop the galamsey menace and laughed saa. Remember the guy is a government communicator. Is that how we are governng ourselves? This is a failure of the parties that be. Why do we pay all those big monies to our so called political heads? So if Charles Bissiw is being investigated, there is no one in the country from the Upper Regions to the Southern Regions to fill that position and continue to coordinate the task force? The old Prof has failed miserably and lends credence to my assertion that the fact that you are a Dr, Prof, LLB CIM, CIME ACCA Ba Eng, M Pham, BSc, GLS, CIPD or whatever does not mean you can do a particular job. Appoint someone to fill Bissiws position, the person should have a can do attitude, eschew cronyism and ethnocentrism. The person should also be able to refuse control and if possible resign and state clearly the reason for the resignation if even party leaders and leaders in government put pressure on him or her. STOP MAKING US A LAUGHING STOCK.
