The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says one of the greatest legacies former President J.J. Rawlings left the country is the district assembly concept, which must be protected and sustained.
The President, who was speaking at the 30th Anniversary celebration of the creation of the Akatsi South District at the capital Akatsi yesterday, said he would uphold and deepen local governance by ensuring that elections at the local government level have been made partisan.
Nana Akufo-Addo noted that the time had come to move away from the so-called non-partisan nature of elections in local government administration.
According to the President, it is common knowledge that even though elections at the local government level are non-partisan, political parties still secretly support candidates.
According to him, he is ready to relinquish his power of appointing District Chief Executives (DCEs) to the people.
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to support the referendum and vote for ‘Yes’, as a way of transferring power to the people to elect their own DCEs.
Responding to the request from the Paramount Chief of Avenor Traditional Area, Togbui Dorglo Anumah VI, to upgrade the Akatsi South District to municipal status, the President said the request was reasonable.
The Paramount Chief commended the President for granting them traditional council status.
He described the President as a man of principle who walks his talk, and that the chiefs and people of Avenor would not forget him.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who visited the HGL rice and maize farms at Adaklu Tsreife, also addressed the chiefs and people of Ketu South at Aflao.
The two days working tour of the Volta Region would take the President on the second day to North Dayi, South Dayi and Juapong in the North Tongu District, where he would tour Volta Star Textile Limited.
The Minister for National Security, Mr. Kan Dapaah, Chieftaincy Minister Mr. Samuel Kofi Dzamesi, Energy Minister Mr. John Peter Amewu, Health Minister Dr. Kweku Agyemang Manu, and the Local Government Minister, Madam Hajia Alimatu Mahama, are in the President’s entourage.

In fact ndc have problem with hat*e stop the ha*te and use the time to think kritically for ha*te is waste of time and energy. You see your ha*te and env*iness even let you forget we have Anloga in Kumasi but we don't have Ashanti town anywhere in your Volta. You forget Kwame Zu is from the Volta and making noise insulting even an Akan chief in Kumasi this is the difference between you and others ! Listen, you don't determine who rules Ghana but Ghanaians make their choice of their leader and for that matter the majority ! Ndc is not a good alternative for Ghana, ndc has no brains to think kritically to move this country forward because of ha*te and env*iness ,jealousy and evil minded! Ghana doesn't belong to the ndc and take it or leave it ndc will never come back until it is well organized with kritical thinkers. How can a political party survive with no policies, no vision, no dreams, no programs and they think with their negativity it is going to win them power in 2020 you joking !the 54% discerning Ghanaians have never regretted but very proud of who they voted for and will vote for him and his party again! We want leaders who can solve problems not leaders who run to others for credibility because they consumed the flesh of the meat leaving the bones! we can't hand over our country to dumsor, sada, suba nkomfem fly away to Burkina! create loo000*00t and share ! Ghana is in safe hands we are moving forward !
this is akuffo addo guy is old but not smart. between kuffour and rawlings who did better for ghana? nana addo must know very soon he will be on his way out and he will see what will become of his legacy when he leaves power, be it npp or ndc that takes over. he should stop the ***barred word*** betrayal and wise up. oh these akyems - no wonder their towns and villages are all rundown and they have sold their lands to foreigners to do galamsey.
Politics of convenience, now Akufo Addo is using Rawlings legacy and not Kuffour. Hypocrite.
THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VOLTA AND ASHANTI. THE PEOPLE OF VOLTA THINK EVERYONE MUST BE WELCOMED TO THEIR LAND. NO PHYSICAL OR VERBAL DISCRIMINATION AS IT IS OPENLY DONE ELSEWHERE IN THE ASHANTI REGION AND KIBI.
