The scourge of monetization in Ghana’s electoral politics will be the underlying theme for the celebration of the 38th anniversary of the 31st December revolution, on Tuesday, December 31.
The commemoration which will take place at the Winneba Lorry Park with a durbar of Chiefs and people will have leading cadres including the architect of the revolution, former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings as speakers.
The event will involve a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of the fallen heroes followed by a durbar.
According to the Organising Committee, the celebration will be under the theme, Monetization of Elections in Ghana: ‘A threat to National Development and Genuine Democracy’.
Aside the leader of the revolution, other speakers lined up for the commemoration include former President, John Dramani Mahama, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah, NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Mike Hammah.
The organizing committee is inviting cadres, sympathisers of the revolution and members of the public to the commemoration which will commence at 8.30 am on Tuesday.
The 31st December 1981 revolution ushered in a period of economic and political transformation that culminated in the re-establishment of lasting constitutional rule in 1992. The revolution also gave birth to the National Democratic Congress which won elections in 1992 and 1996 under the leadership of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings.

Ghanaians including ex- president Rawlings need a change in attitude. The former president has no moral right to justify 31st December coup, when someone sponsored your children education overseas, a daughter as a member of parliament, and wife owning several properties that were not inherited. The families of all the generals executed should be compensated heavily because all AFRC/PNDC members benefited a lot. The next question Ghanaians should ask is why particular ethnic group has been used as front men for coup detas dating from February 24 1966. #2. Corruption in Ghana is unprecedented why is it so? Did the coup help Ghana or paved way for Ghanaians to accept corrupt behavior as a norm #3.Coup detas for section of ghanaians to make money and acquire properties is not different from political parties or parties in power involved in corrupt practices to make money for their families and few friends. There is no justification for celebration of 31st December, if the current administration is doing something different. Ghana @ 62 years is still shiit if the less privelaged cannot access quality healthcare. All our leaders including Rawlings should be ashamed of themselves. The president and his vice always travel overseas for quality healthcare. Top government officials do the same shiit. ARE WE GROWING TALLER OR WE ARE GROWING WISER? Is the nation worth dying for?. Everybody is involved in corruption shiit. My humble appeal to Ghanaians is to do away with partisan none sense and welcome the year 2020 with a deep heart, love for the country elect people of substance whether is NPP?NDC, do away with ***barred word*** as pastors/men of god, purge the respected chieftancy institution and avoid biased judiciary system else the country will go nowhere and Rawlings will continue to celebrate his un achievable none sense. LONG LIVE GHANA. We need a very positive change in the year 2020. no more corrupt practices from the president to the ordinary street guy,
Right under our nose, a greedy man is celebrating the day he killed others for same offense he is still enjoying its fruit. Where is our conscience?
how many innocent lifes did you and your cohorts kill during those thought-less period? it was in sane moments i do not want to remember. it amuses me when we celebrate the needless murder of many innocent persons. do they deserve to die? see how today Rawlings is having houses all over the place and i wonder if he is happy with such wealth? what was the inflation at the end of Rawlings Administration?
this is a very shamef-ul period in the history of this country. several people where murdered for nothing when Rawlings and konadu where selling and buying state factories like the Nsawam canaries to themselves. Rawinlings took the daughter to university in England whilst he murdered others for having two toilets in their homes. how many toilets have you got Rawlings in your house today. it was indeed a shameful period in our history.
31st December to make your daughter a sitting MP at the expense of ex-- generals executed for more corruption to surface and adore. Yet nobody including past and current administration see nothing wrong with that because of corruption and all are power drunk. Time will tell and Ghanaians will live to see the ***barred word*** side later. If retired Boakye Gyan's comment on Kojo Lee is true then there would be better thriller in Manlinar in future. A time is coming when the less privelaged and fearless Ghanaians would surface to demand proper accountability from all Ghanaians both dead and alive including all ex-presidents.
Is he celebrating this with national resources? Kufuor a weak leader? Cos he didn't put Rawlings behind bars? He Mr kufuor shd be behind bars as well. Those of u commenting does he enjoy all his loot with you. ***barred word*** idddiiootsss. Triiibalisst foooolllssss. Mr Rawlings will remain the longest serving President this nation has produced whether u like it or not.
OF COURSE OUR WEAK LEADERS KUFFOUR AND AKUFFO ADDO HAS ALLOWED THIS ***barred word*** TO GO ON FOR THIS LONG. RAWLINGS AND HIS HENCHMEN SHOULD HAVE BEEN CELEBRATING IN DEN HAGE AND NOT IN GHANA. ITS ONLY IN GHANA THAT WE GLORIFY CRIMINALSSS AS CELEBRATES. RAWLINGS IS A CRIMINALLL, A THIEFFF AND A CRIMINALL YET WE CELERATE HIM. HOW SAD.
Enough is enough this no sense must stop. Is very sad Ghanaians still welcome this atrocities coursed by this revolution. What exactly did this revolution achieve? I always use Paul Kigalme as an example. Ruwanda came out of civil war and within 12years this man is able to turn everything round to make the country one of the best in Africa today. Taken hostage of this country for almost 20years, what do we see? Corruption, diet and indiscipline. Visit ***barred word*** and listen to stories about Rawlings from his own colleagues he did the coup with. You'll know his intension of staging that coup. Lord have mercy.
It is time Nana Addo should stop this monster to celebrating this nonense.Nana must be careful of this guy.he thinks he is the veep.He is the agent 0f the devil.
It is time Rawlings should talk about NPP corruption. We are waiting for him to comment about that because why Rawlings talk about all corruptions and he cannot tell Akufo Addo that he and his government are corrupt
