Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, said calls by some major stakeholders on government to with immediate effect lock down the nation to prevent any further spread of the deadly coronavirus cannot be considered.
“Lockdown? To implement lockdown in Ghana? It’s not feasible!” he said in an interview on Neat FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
According to him, those calling for a lockdown [mainly the Ghana Medical Association] “have toilets and baths in their house, they can afford to purchase all they desire and whatever they require can be delivered to them. What about those who depend on public toilets?”
His comment comes after the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to immediately lock down the nation to prevent any further spread of the deadly coronavirus.
In a statement, the GMA said being fully conscious of the threat posed by this pandemic and the disturbing trend of community spread and the obvious inadequate of capacity (logistic and human resource) of the nation’s health system to deal with increased numbers of COVID-19 infection especially in the severe to critical cases, the President must declare a Nationwide Lockdown except for essential services with immediate effect.
The call by the GMA comes after one more person died of coronavirus in Ghana bringing the total number of recorded deaths from the virus to three.
The deceased is a wife of a Rear Admiral in the Ghana Armed forces. She died at an isolation center at the 37 military hospital in Accra Wednesday.
Ghana’s COVID-19 cases jumped to 132 as of Thursday, March 26, according to the Ghana Health Service.

But I thought, Akufo Addo in his SONA address said his government has build 13,800 toilets, where are they.
Akufo-Addo and his economic management team must also put in place an economic package to deal with the Lockdown. Ask landlords not to charge rent, fuel and food subsidies and so. The Lockdown will affect economic activity and will most likely through the economy into recession.
