The National Peace Council is praising the Electoral Commission (EC) for the conduct of the voters registration exercise.
The Council indicated that generally, the conduct of the ongoing voters registration exercise has been peaceful.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Most Rev. Emmanuel Asante, the Council says “majority of the registration centres monitored by our team conducted themselves in civility and in accordance with laid down procedures by the Electoral Commission.”
The Council acknowledged the fact that the EC has so far ensured that materials and logistics needed for the effectiveness of the exercise have been made available, notwithstanding some initial bottlenecks which confronted a few Registration Centres.
“It’s also worth commending the Electoral Commission and the Security agencies for the swift action that they took on the unfortunate happening at Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region on Saturday, July 4, 2020, to ensure peace was timely restored and to protect the integrity of the registration process,” the Peace Council observed.
However, the Council stated that it was disturbed by recent incidents in some registration centres including Ejura-Sekyeredumasi, Asutifi South and Tano South and Ho West Constituencies.
The Council says its reporters recorded clashes between supporters of NPP and NDC in the above-mentioned Constituencies.

President has been the opposite of whatever promise he made to the Ghanaian populace prior to 2016 elections and therefore needed to be voted out of power. This man right here promised to reduce ministers. He increased it. This man promised not to run a family and friends government, today it is worse. This man promised a stronger cedi. Today the cedi is worse than it was. This man promised to fight corruption by using Anas’ strategy. Today he is fighting Anas. This man promised to protect the public purse. Today he is fighting the Auditor-General and everybody who is protecting our money so that his people like Osafo Marfo can have their way. This man used investigations by Manasseh Azure to conclude that the NDC was corrupt and rallied Ghanaians to vote them out. Today he is fighting the same Manasseh.
