Authorities in Ghana say they have increased security alert levels in the country to counter possible attacks.
National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah warned MPs that separatists in south-eastern Ghana could be planning a new wave of attacks in the region as part of their campaign for a breakaway state of Western Togoland.
The authorities also fear ethnic tensions in northern Ghana could be exploited by armed groups to perpetrate violence, and there are concerns that militants could cross over from neighbouring Burkina Faso, where armed groups linked to the so-called Islamic State and al-Qaeda have recently stepped up attacks.
Mr Kan-Dapaah told MPs that the country must be proactive in the wake of rising insecurity in West Africa, and said security agencies have been adequately equipped to combat any threats - including beefing up security measures along the country’s border with Burkina Faso.
Ghana is one of the most stable countries in West Africa but it has several volatile neighbours.

Thanks Mr Albert Kan - Dapaah, the National Security Minister) by raising alerting and about the security situation in Ghana and the possible external attacks from the south eastern separatists attacks and the armed groups linked to the Islamic State, populary known as al-Queada. I am drawing your attention to the internal security lapses and loopholes been exploited by the gangsters of armed robbers ***barred word*** and killing innocent Ghanaians. Innocent Ghanaians doing their daily bussines in a broad day light had been robbed and killed. Security personel such as the police had lost their lifes when on aktive duties. There is a saying in Akan language: "the fish start stinging from the head" As much as security alert had been high alerted to counter possible attacks from external militants and terrorists, there is also the need to raise and alerting the internal securities measures to curb and control militant roberry activities in the country. External und Internal measures to counter attack on the activities of militans in the country are two sides of the same coin. When the internal sucurity is porous and weak, definetly the external militants will be able to take advantage of that feable internal security and exploit the situation to attack and terrorised Ghanaians. This has happened in many African countries, such as Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali etc. It has always been the question of how to conscientise Ghanaians about the rural and urban security measures. I believe it is now the task of the National Security Minister and his Team to foster security educational management publications and awareness for Ghanaians. To educate the citizens about security awarness. This security educational awarness is not only for our security personel,( the police and the army, national fire service, Prison officers) but for the entire nation, as it is documented in our constituion, "to protect and defend Ghana, our motherland" Its the responsibilty of all Ghanaians to arise and defend Ghana, our beloved Country. Thank You
Good job, Mr. Minister, for being proactive and vigillant, werther they are separatist or the so-called Islamic state and al-Quada we shall crushed them all. In Ghana Muslims and Non-Muslims co-exist peacefully.
