Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, has bemoaned the current state of affairs in the country saying, “Ghana is worse off than it was some 43 years ago.”
She said the acute social and economic hardship, social injustice, massive corruption and nepotism Ghanaians were experiencing could not be compared to what pertained 43 years ago, which brought about the June 4 uprising, championed by former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Madam Gomashie, who was speaking at the end of a June 4 Health Walk at Aflao, said it had become even more important to commemorate the day, especially at a time when there was the need for fairness, equity, and the creation of opportunities for all so that those reeling under poverty could have some respite.
“What is happening in the country now is not close to what was the situation when the June 4 revolution happened in 1979. Things have worsened. Massive corruption, greed and disregard for the people, which is resulting in the impoverishment, suffering and frustration of the masses today....” she said.
The MP said the uprising served its purpose at the time by fighting corruption, greed, and nepotism among other things adding: “It’s still relevant in the present time because such cankers are becoming even more pronounced.”
Mr Bright Korku Kumordzi, the Ketu South Constituency Chairman of the NDC, said all was not well with the rate at which state lands/properties were allegedly being sold to private individuals and called for stringent measures to curtail it for the sake of future generations.
Mr George Loh, the Party’s Regional Vice Chairman, said the June 4 Revolution, which gave birth to the NDC, was a time to reflect on issues that brought about the uprising.
He charged the party faithful to work hard to win power in the next elections to rescue Ghanaians from the current hardships, saying: “The rescue mission is on, be prepared to campaign for victory in 2024.”

Madam if things are not good let your party table out it programs and policies they would use to rescue the so called economic hardships. You cannot just say things are difficult so the people should vote for your Create, Loot and Share party. If you have not been to power before then people might fall into to your tricks. Return the V8 2016 module you bought it for just Gch 8,000, shame unto you and your cohort NDC members. We all know how Samuel Okudzeto, Kelix Kwakye, Twum Boafo, Stan Dogbe,Afriyie Ankrah etc became filfy rich overnight when you were in power. It is not going to happen, the worse NPP government is best NDC can perform. Come 2024 the government is going to list all its achievements, projects, infrastructures for 8 years alongside your 8 years achievements in govermnent.
This woman might have just arrived from a different planet. Things are difficult in every country now. I have worked with Asda supermarket for 21 years and shortage of some items are unprecedented. I was not allowed to buy 2 fives litres of sunflower oil in the shop I have been working all these years. Some of the items have increased four fold. Ghana is not exception to the world economic downturn.
Well during the NDCs era, there wasn't major world outbreak but the country suffered more than ever. Ghana is not the only country going through the economic hardship. Madam be truthful and stop these lies
Is this woman aware the whole world is in economic crisis,to the extent that even super economies are struggling? I wonder why the NDC is so dishonest and ***barred word*** about real governance issues.Their brand is has always been propaganda, mischief and lies.Never a again!
If the current state of affairs in Ghana is worse than it was 43 years ago, then the NDC should bear a larger share of the blame, because the PNDC and NDC have been in government for 30 years and the NPP for 13. Thus, 70% of the worst chunk could be attributed to the NDC and 30% to the NPP. The baseless propaganda of the NDC has become counterproductive, and the NDC seems not to realize it out of ignorance and frustration.
We sat here and your ndc refused to engage the people to tell us the truth.charle the gonja mafioso ,***barred word*** . No cohesive development .lackadaisical attitude to work. Ineffective border patrol influx of criminals.refusal to sack corrupt officials. I know NPP has really amplified all the atrocities during their tenure my question is what will the NDC do before we give you the mandate to ensure the disgraceful behavior will not repeat its self.
