A middle-aged man has been killed by a lion at the Accra Zoo, located within the Achimota Forest.
Around 12:00 hours today 28th August. 2022, officials of the Accra Zoo on a routine patrol, noticed a middle-aged man (an intruder) had jumped the security fences and entered the lions enclosure of the zoo.
The intruder was attacked and injured by one of the lions, within the inner fencing of the enclosure.
The intruder has been confirmed dead from injuries sustained and the body has been conveyed to the morgue.
Authorities are yet to determine the motive of the middle-aged man.
The CEO of the Forestry Commission, John Allotey in a statement said "Accra Zoo authorities successfully coaxed the lions into a secure hold and invited the Achimota Police to convey the body and commence investigations".
“Forestry Commission wishes to assure the general public that no lion has escaped from the Accra Zoo,” he added.

I doubt whether the man was normal. Was he going to steal one of the cabs? Even if he had succeeded how was he going to pass through the security gate in unnoticed. This is a needless loss of life. It also sends a signal to management of the zoo not to take things for granted. Assuming one of the lions was let out by the intruder can you imagine the pandemonium it would have caused. All the same may the soul of my 'friend ' , the intruder rest in peace.
