The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, the second lady Samira Bawumia, paid a visit on former President John Agyekum Kufour on Boxing Day.
The Bawumias visited the residence of the 84-year-old for a visit to pay him ‘Christmas homage’.
The Vice President shared photos from the visit on his social media handles, writing: “Samira Bawumia and I paid a Christmas homage to Former President Kufuor at his residence. It’s always refreshing to interact with Papa Kufuor,”
The former President and the Vice President have a relationship of healthy mutual admiration.
A few years ago, when Kufour remained more active in politics, he wholeheartedly endorsed the Vice President as an exceptional future leader for this country.
Speaking during an event in which the former President introduced the Vice President, he said that Ghana is extremely fortunate to have a leader like Bawumia on hand, calling him a ‘responsible politician’.
“The nation must count itself fortunate to have such a son as Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who rightly fits the role of the needed analyst. He is an economist, banker and also a responsible politician, who has a lot of experience,” said the former President.
Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia has kept up a busy schedule even over the holiday period.
On Sunday, 25th December 2022, Dr Bawumia worshipped with prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah’s Glorious Word and Power Ministries for their Christmas day service.
The Vice President delivered an address to the church’s congregants, during which he said Ghanaians have a lot to be thankful to God for despite an economically challenging year.
“The birth of Jesus Christ is a very special event for humanity. Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. When Joseph brought them to Bethlehem, there was no house for them so they had to go into the manger with the animals. That is where Jesus was born.
“Jesus Christ was born in a manger but we are now waiting for him to come back and save the world from the anti-Christ. Today is a great day to celebrate for humanity. Today is also a day to give thanks to God. We sometimes labour in our problems but we have a lot to be thankful for,” he said.

Good to see. The former and sitting presidents have a lot to learn from former president Kufuor. The man still commands a lot of respect even after leaving office. Undoubtedly former president kufour is the most successful president of Ghana's fourth republic. Within the NPP he's still very popular. Kufour's ability to move government and party together was amazing. Under his watch the NPP was very vibrant throughout the 8 years he was in power. To the extent that the person who took over from him led with 49% in the 2008 elections tells you the NPP was still the popular choice of the people after 8 years due to kufour's policies, especially his pro poor policies and the enabling environment he created for the business community in Ghana. Come to think of the national health insurance scheme, capitation grant, school feeding program, metro mass transport, free mass cocoa spraying exercise, micro finance and small loans centre ( MASLOC) , livelihood empowerment against poverty (LEAP) , a percentage of the district assemblies common fund earmarked for people with disabilities (PWD's), hosted CAN 2008 culminating in Tamale and Sekondi getting brand new stadia, national youth employment program (NYEP), imported FARMTRAC tractors for farmers in northern Ghana on hire purchase bases, built the Bui hydro electric dam, created new districts to speed up development in rural Ghana, built regional parks in all regional capitals to mark Ghana @50, free school uniforms for pupils in deprived communities in rural Ghana, negotiated with the national investment bank (N I B) to import road construction equipment for local road contractors on work and pay bases. He was very much liked by colleague presidents across the world. George ***barred word*** (USA) millennium challenge account, the N1 highway in Accra was constructed through this account.Angela Merkel (Germany), Tony Blair (U K), Jacques Chirac (France), Shinzo Abe (Japan), all supported Ghana in diverse ways. Late queen Elizabeth 11 of the UK supported kufour with 64 million pounds to enable free maternity care for Ghanaian mothers in all public hospitals nationwide. etc etc, yes kufour was not perfect but compared to the rest he is far far above them. Kufour had a listening ear and was a keen observer. Under Kufuor NPP regional/ constituency chairmen were feared and respected by all the political appointees because he made his appointees aware these were the people whose untiring efforts made him president. Today it's party chairmen who are running errands for regional ministers and MMDCEs. If chairman is himself not seeing top, how is a common party supporter going to see top thus the disappointment and apathy all over. Hope Bawumia will continue to pay Kufuor regular visits to learn from him. The man kufour have a lot under his sleeves, if you humble yourself before him you won't regret after all it was same kufour who discovered Bawumia and brought him for abroad to serve as deputy governor in the bank of Ghana. Kufour nie Osono nie, we miss him too much. The man knows what he's about.
