A 29-year-old coconut seller, Kweku Anning, was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Cape Coast Circuit court for conspiracy to commit crime and possession of narcotics drugs without lawful authority.
He pleaded not guilty.
State Attorney Ben Ansah Agyemfra told the court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai that on 22 December 2011 the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command organized an operation to track down Indian hemp peddlers in the area.
He said the team spotted Kweku Anning and Yaw Tano now at large at an oil mill factory at the outskirts of Assin Nyankomase and found dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in his possession.
Mr Agyemfra said Tano escaped but the police arrested Anning and found on him 192 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
He said, the suspected dried leaves were sent to the police forensic laboratory for analysis and the report showed that the dried leaves, which weighed 1,253.28 grams was cannabis.
