Police operatives have foiled a robbery attack on a residence at Israel in Accra, leading to the arrest of three suspected robbers.
The suspects are Yussif Salam, 26, a welder; Kassim Sani, 25, a butcher, and Wilson Sulley, 22, a forklift operator.
Speaking to journalists yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said after receiving a tip-off about a planned robbery attack on a private residence at Israel, the police went to the location to lay ambush and arrested the suspects when they arrived for their operation.
Items found
Mr Yohuno said when the suspects were searched, the police found a gun, a pistol and five rounds of live ammunition on them.
Other items retrieved from them included military camouflage caps and two black hoods in a backpack.
According to Mr Yohuno, police preliminary investigations had established that, “This gang of robbers is responsible for several robbery activities at Israel, Kasoa and Ashongman, all in Accra.”
The police, Mr Yohuno said, found that the suspects laid ambush in their targeted community before they “attack, rob and in most cases injure their victims during odd hours.”
