Employment Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, told Joy News, the decision was arrived at after Tuesday’s Public Sector Joint Negotiation Committee Meeting in Accra.
Per the decision, effective from January 2017, salary of persons working in the public sector would go up.
“I am happy to inform you that conclusively government together with its social partners namely Minister of Finance, leaders of Public Sector Workers Union, the Ghana Prisons Service, and the Ghana Police Service have concluded negotiation on base pay increases up to 12.5 percent,” he said.

I thought this guy a few days ago said government cannot afford the 80 pesewa increase in the minimum wage from 8ghc to 8.80ghc. And that Ghana is not yet there to have a living wage compared to others in the world but must be comfortable with the minimum at the moment. so how come you are now announcing 12.5% in public Sector wages. I CAN SEE DECEPTION AT IT BEST. WHAT BUNCH OF LIARS HAVE WE BEDEVILED OURSELVES WITH AS LEADERS
CONCERT PARTY!!!
You can't be deceiving us all the time, you think we are ***barred word***. We wont vote for you with this desperate offer.
I am an NDC but I think this promise or announcement is childish as it is deceptive. Why 2017? You say this to win your elections and then renegade on that promise with all manner of excuses.
When this guy with Fiifi Kwertey and tge likes were bla bla bla in those days, folks thought they were ambit of all knowledge. Apparently, they have ended up being empty barrels, and hence supping the poor tax payer's money. Your days are numbered! Desperate times need desperate actions indeed!
NDC STEALING BRIGADE ON PARADE HIGHLIGHTING STEALING AND ROBBERY OF GHANA MONEY. VOTE MAHAMA AND NDC OUT AND SAVE GHANA FROM CORRUPTION, HUNGER AND STEALING OF GHANA MONEY. NO 3RD TERM FOR JULOR MAHAMA!!!
didnt the NDC tell the IMF that it will not increase expenditure in this election year? Do they think they can fuuuuuuuuuul people to vote for them with this? High inflation will erode this increase, but, NPP will still win.
pooooooor pooooor poooor poooor pooor poor gvment
Why not letting the salary increase take effect from January 2016? NDC tricks at work. they know they are exiting so they want to make things difficult for a new gov't. if gov't really wants peace on the labor front it should quickly satisfy the pharmacists who are on strike. currently, there is no strong agitation from public sector workers. Mischief of the highest order.
Desperation be what?
