The Ministry of Health has urged striking nurses of the Accra psychiatric hospital to call off their strike as it works to address their concerns.
According to the Ministry, some GH¢1 billion will soon be disbursed by the Ministry of Finance for the procurement of some needed logistics for the facility.
The psychiatric nurses on Monday [October 31] declared an indefinite strike, claiming that work at the facility posed serious risk to them.
They lamented that the lack of some logistics and materials at the hospital made if difficult for them to operate.
Some said they have been forced to personally finance the purchase of needed logistics.
But Tony Goodman, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health told Citi News, “The finance ministry is releasing some money to us. They've dealt with the human right aspect of it. So moving forward, we are asking them to go back to work while we deal with the issue.”
He said the ministry has taken steps to acquire some of the logistics the nurses have requested.
“On the things they mentioned, we started providing them. The human resources is one of them. The other things which has to do with commodities, the procurement people are working on it and will get back to us. We are also expecting this GH¢1million from the ministry of Finance, immediately we get it, we will provide some of the medications we believe should be available,” he added.

Have you provided the necessary logistics for them to work with? There is no need begging them to return to work. And peacefmonline too why? In the openiing part of the story, you said GHC 1 billion and in the concluding part you said GHC 1 million. which is which?
Mr Segbefia i disagree with you on this, do you have any relative working there? if yes will you tell him or her to go and work under this condition? Please this nurses are not asking for more money ohhh. They are asking for DRUGS!!!, logistics and materials to help them run the hospital. take a good look at it again.
THIS AGYA YAW PAAA, THE NURSES CALL OFF THE STRIKE, GO BACK TO WORK AND WORK WITH WHAT ? WE ALL NOT HAPPY THAT OUR BROTHERS, SISTERS, ECT, AT THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS WOULD BE LEFT UNATTENDED TO BY THE NURSES. HOWEVER JUST PUT YOURSELF THE NURSES' SHOES AND TELL US WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE DONE. BY THE WAY, WHERE IS THE GOVT, AND FOR THAT MATTER THE FINANCE MINISTRY GOING TO FIND THE GHC 1B TO FIX WHAT THE NURSES HAS BEEN ASKING FOR ALL THIS WHILE ? WHAT WAS THE GOVT DOING ALL THIS WHILE ? THE NURSES STARTED CRYING LONG AGO, SOMEWHERE LAST YEAR. WHAT WAS THE GOVT DOING ?
Go back to work with WHAT?
THE ONCOMPETENCE IS PERVASIVE! AHHAAAAAABA! CHANGE IS COMING!
This is very hard to understand. What was the Minister and the Director of the Hospital doing by then ? Good management is not from the "TOP to the BOTTOM" It is always BOTTOM UP. Now its a matter of trust. The nurses are right because confidence has been smashed by management. Nobody can deliver without logistics or the needed working tools that could creat a safe working environment. The whole ministry should be ashamed of their actions. Working in Psychiatric environment is very volatile, psychiatric nurses need safe environment to carry their humble duties. Government should be pro-active when it comes to health specially MENTAL HEALTH. Please health minister work with your team, get feedbacks from your team players and take actions. Why GHc 1 billion ? I was thinking the money will be in $$$ so that the government says the have to borrow from IMF but in our local currency. Minister Act fast and show some sign of restoration to get your nurses back to work
Must it come to that?
This means Mahama is not on top of the country. He is such a competent President
Even though I do not like some of the Minister of President Mahama, Mr Segbefia has consistently remain a decent gentleman by my estimation, except if others know more than I know of him. I therefore wish to join him in calling on our hard working Psychiatric Nurses to call off their legitimate strike action.
