It appears the immediate past President, John Dramani Mahama, will not have breathing space anytime soon, as controversies surrounding his request to keep a state bungalow as a retirement home, takes a new twist.
In a letter dated January 10, 2017, withdrawing his request for the residence after a huge public condemnation, the President did not only copy Nana Akufo-Addo, but also the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and by extension the Manhyia Palace.
The decision to copy the Asantehene has left many questioning the role the King may have played in the entire saga. There are unconfirmed reports that a meeting may have taken place between Mr. John Mahama and President Akufo-Addo, at which meeting a decision was reached by both transition teams, to allow the former President maintain his official residence as his retirement home.
If such an agreement was reached for the Ex-President to keep the residence, then one wonders why the new government is now claiming not to have approved the request for Mr. John Mahama. Below is Mr. John Mahama’s letter officially withdrawing the request for the residential and office facilities.
OFFICIAL RESIDENCE AND OFFICE
I refer to our agreement on the above subject matter and wish to inform you that, I have decided to formally withdraw both requests to continue to stay at my current place of residence, No. 3 Prestige Link, Cantonments, and also to use bungalow No. 6, 3rd Avenue, Ridge as my office.
It would appear that these requests threaten to mar the spirit of cooperation with which we as co-chairs of the Joint Transition Team have managed the smooth transfer of power from my administration to yours. I believe that this controversy is absolutely not needed in these early days as your Government settles into office.
I do recognize that these are facilities that are conventionally extended to Presidents that leave office and I am also mindful of the approval by the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana on Wednesday, 4th January, 2017 at its Twenty-Second Sitting of the Third Meeting of the Fourth Session.
You will recall, Mr. President, that contrary to the erroneous impression created by some persons in Government, and the interpretation given to the formal letter submitted on my behalf by Julius Debrah, this follow up to an agreement we had on my choice of accommodation and office.
I had never requested to purchase the property. My request is therefore humbly withdrawn. As always, my family and I wish you well in your endeavours as you strive to consolidate and advance the gains made by successive Governments.
Kind regards, H.E John Dramani Mahama Former President, Republic of Ghana H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo President of the Republic of Ghana cc. Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II Manhyia Palace Kumasi-Ghana.

I have always considered President Mahama as immature flowing from his utterances and actions. His decision to copy his letter to the Asante he needs has more than confirmed my opinion. It is nothing strange for him to have approached the King to intervene in the matter. But this was certainly not official.Such things happen all the time and former part of our traditional alternative conflict resolution system. But if there's a problem why make it known to the whole world you got 9king involved? This was very indisccrete. If I were him I wouldn't have said anything at all for the hullabaloo to settle then cool heads would reason. Unfortunately, this is the kind of President we've been saddled with for over four years. He should take a cue from the general euphoria that greeted his resounding defeat to have an idea how very deeply he was resented by the general populace.I hope he will humble himself enough to learn from all the recent happeningSAS well as upcoming events.
TODAY EX.PRESIDENT MAHAMAH IS REQUESTING TO KEEP A STATE BUNGALOW FROM NANA ADO. THE ONE HE USE TO CALL OPANA. THIS WORLD IS A SMALL WORLD.
Massa; For me I do not get it !!! ; why is the Ashanthene getting himself in this corrupt act to assist Jon Mahama and why does he even have to entertain such request from Jon Mahama ;does the Ashantehene think Nana Adddo is a ***barred word*** man who does not know the law and entertains corruption ; everbody now understand why this Kweku Dua the Ashantehene is accused of corruption and stilling and dealing with this JOn Mahama family and disgracing Ashante people ;has the Ashanthene not learnt his lessons from the the 2012 election saga ; does the Ashantehene think it is the hands of past and present presidents Nana Addo to be allocating state assets to Jon Mahama and doing deals behind close doors ;Ghanaians are wide awake !!!!!!!; now people can understand why Martin-Amidu says some Chiefs are involved in begging Nana Adddo to refrain from prosecuting Jon Mahama NDC ministers and thiffs who have over inflated contracts ; mine problem is why is the Otumfuo getting involved in this pleading business ; IS THE ASHANTEHENE SO CORRUPT TO CONDONE SUCH ACTS ; did theNDC share their lutted state monies with the Otunmfuo and what makes the Asdhanthene think he is so powerful to influence any action against Jon Mahama and these NDC bandits besides Jon Mahama since his childhood have been to school free of charge ; he attended Legon free ; became an MP on state salary and a pension ; became a vicce and president of Ghana ; aqcquired properties in Dubai and was involved in business with his brother inbrahim Mahama ; so what kind of person afterall these lutting episopde including over invoicing ; taking kick backs of the helicoptor deal still wants to leave in a state house free ; WHAT KIND OF CORRUPTION IS THIS AND WORSE OF ALL WHY SHOULD THE OTUMFUO ASHANTEHENE GET INVOLVED IN THIS STILLING SAGA ; KWEKU DUA WHY ?WHY DO YOU DRAG ASHANTEMAN IN THE CESSPIT OF FAECES !!!!!!!
