The National Service Scheme(NSS) will still go ahead to implement the mandatory GH₵ 15 deduction from the allowances of all National Service Personnel (NSP) across the country as contribution to an insurance policy package, despite threats to sue the National Service Secretariat over the move.
Earlier, Convener for a group calling itself the Concerned National Service Personnel Association of Ghana, Agbodo Williams revealed they’d gathered enough signatures from personnel all over to begin a legal challenge against the move by the NSS and the National Service Personnel Association.
Notwithstanding the legal threats, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme(NSS) has directed all Regional Directors to ensure the deduction effective this month.
A circular sighted by Kasapafmonline.com and signed by the Director of Administration, Paul Appiah Owusu charged Regional Directors to deduct the amount before submitting payment vouchers.
“I am directed by the Executive Director to inform you that the National Service Personnel Insurance Policy Premium Deduction will take effect from 1st November 2017. You are required to deduct GH₵ 15 monthly premium from all National Service Personnel allowance before Submitting the payment vouchers to the Internal Audits.”
The Insurance package covers death, injury, medicals among other serious implications that may affect the wellbeing of personnel during the year of service.
According to the agreement, insurance company like Glico will be required to pay a claim of GHS15,000 to the next of kin in case of death of any personnel during the period of service.
In the event of personnel becoming temporary disabled for a period not less than one month due to accidental injury, the insurance company would also pay the affected NSP GHS3,000.
According to the board chairman of NSS, provisions of the National Service Scheme Act, 1980, Act 426 approves the package after vigorous and wide scrutiny and consultation.

i wonder how we Ghanaians cherish death like that, GlICO will pay a claim of GH¢15000 to the next of kin in case of death of any personal during the service and also pay a claim of GH¢3000 ONLY in case of injury. The NSP should rather think about work after national service for all NSP.
this is a bad initiative. totally unnecessary
