United States President, Donald Trump’s comment describing El Salvador, Haiti and some African nations as ‘shithole’ countries has got many Africans seething in anger
Mr. Trump was reported to have made the unsavoury comments while complaining about immigrants coming to the US, during immigration negotiations on Thursday with lawmakers in the Oval Office.
Ghanaians, like many Africans across the globe, have expressed their disgust for the unpleasant remarks passed by the controversial US President. They did not spare the moment to voice their outrage when they spoke to www.Ghanaweb.com.
According to them, Trump’s statement was “racist” and demanded that the American President render an apology to the labelled countries.
A commuter said “I think that man (referring to Donald Trump) needs a whooping in the a**. He needs to apologise for using such a derogatory comment. But I think it’s up to our African leaders to sit up and do something better for the African continent.”
One lady who refused to her show her face on camera voiced that Trump’s utterance was unfair. Expressing her displeasure, she said “I think it’s his country that is a shithole and not this country because they come here to steal from us to make his country better. He should say sorry for saying that.”
The American leader has received international condemnations from many prominent figures including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Add and former President John Dramani Mahama.
President Akufo-Addo, through his social media platforms stated that “The language of @DonaldTrump that the African continent, Haiti and El Salvador are “shithole countries” is extremely unfortunate. We are certainly not a “shithole country”. We will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful.”
Also adding his criticism to the comment by Donald Trump, ex-president John Mahama urged the African Union to take action following the developments.
“Africans and Haitians come from ‘shithole’ countries? Isn’t Trump demonstrating that he’s nothing but a racist and pursuing a policy of ‘Make America White Again’? I congratulate Botswana for showing the way. Our AU Presidents must respond strongly to this insult.” Mr. Mahama stated in a tweet,
Donald Trump, on Friday, however, denied making those comments. "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made – a big setback for DACA!"

Prez Trum is 100% right about his description about Africa. Even Ghana is worse than that. See, somebody has duped the country heavily and has deprived another person of medical treatment leading to his/her death, and you have people supporting the one who duped the country. Are Ghanaians not more than $hi thole?
if you elect an ***barred word*** as president that is what you will hear
Since when did the word “work” become a barred work? Mo fa mo nsemfon k) do
Trump is only saying what the rest of them Are saying. People wonder why trump won the elections? The very same people who were seen condemning Trump on some of the outrageous utterances he made during the campaign are the same that voted for him. Hypocrisy don’t just exist in Africa. They are secretly applauding him cos that’s what they truly think of us. Trump just happens to be the one who has the balls to say it. This should serve Africans as a kick in the butt cos we and our corrupt leaders are to be blamed . It has to be said, politicians are not only the corrupt people our continent. The Nationals are part of the problem. When u are expected to go to work at 9am and finish at 5/6 and u just show for two hrs and leave and get full salary, that sort of behaviour don’t help any nation to grow. When the systems don’t work but rather “whom you know” is the order of the day. So depending on who u are or affiliated to, u can literally get away with murder. Those are the things that regress a country. Will not even talk about the police, judiciary and politicians. We all need to change for the very change we constantly create y for to happen. No one will do it for us but us. The begged will always be a slave to the giver.
I concur with all the above the previous comments made.I do not agree with the vulgarity of Mr Trump, but truth be told, we are exactly what he said. Too much corruption, a judicail system that favours the rich and the famous and politician. And most of all, the disrespectful manner in which we treat customers. Customer sercvice is so so so so poor. Until our attitude is changed towards work and customer service, we will continue to be the SH countries that the west and particulalry Mr Trump is refering to.
Mr. Trump u are right, what u said is the truth. if African is not a shithole why are the citizen running to America, why are the African leaders stealing the ppls money to Europe, why are the citizen leaving their office work and going to America to do any work. Mr. Trump Arican's dont want the truth. but you have spoken it. Thank you wai, You do all
Africans dont like the truth. we feel we are educated but we have no insight. Trump was not wrong.
I see no reason why Africans should be offended by President Trump's SH comment. African leaders are always begging for Western Worlds tax payers money for roads, schools, toilets etc whereas Africans don't want to pay taxes! Even presidents own brother wasn't paying import tax just because his brother was in power. Africans want everything free! Parliamentarians server for 4years and they take home huge sums of money in the name of end of service benefit whereas teachers, police officers and other government worker take home "nothing" after serving the nation for 40years. This will only happen in a SH country!. Politicians are treated as "gods" in Africa and other "SH countries". Stop stealing poor peoples money and no one will call Africa a SH! Mr Trump is right and I wish he reminds our leaders they are SH leader until they stop stealing poor tax payers money! God Bless Mr Trump for reminding us!
Trump may choose to use derogatory remarks to describe our dear continent. We should not waste our precious timeindulging on his prejudicial preconception but rather channel our energy to challenge our leaders to abdicate themselves from corruption malpractices and live up to their obligations to make their continent economical for its citizens. Africa has everything so why are we still poor.Afr
