Political Science lecturer, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has described the performance of journalists who attended President Akufo-Addo’s media encounter as abysmal.
According to him, the media failed to ask thought-provoking and follow-up questions when they got the opportunity to meet the president on his first anniversary in government.
The encounter which was the second since the president came to office, also falls on his first year in office and to ensure diversity, selected media men and women from the ten regions were given the opportunity to ask the president questions regarding his performance so.
However, the renowned academic says the journalists were disappointing in their roles of asking the president thought-provoking questions.
In his view, market women would have done a better job than the journalists who were at the Flagstaff House.
“Most of the questions were not thought-provoking and I think if the President had gone to the market, they would have done a better job” he said.
Professor Gyampo who was speaking on Asempa FM after the president’s press encounter has therefore asked for the exercise to be scrapped.
He maintains that if government starts organizing People’s Assembly as was done in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, government would get the true picture on the ground.

The journalists of today are very ill-trained and many of them are badly brought up, even in their homes. And looking at the age profile of the journalists, one will realize that they are very young and simply immature. Listen to some of the radio presenters these days and it does not take a rocket science to conclude they are of very poor quality. We need seasoned and mature journalists to attend such functions and ask the thought-provoking questions prof. gyampo is alluding to. The media houses just employ anyone who is able to rattle English; but that is a very inadequate prerequisite for employment as media person.
It was indeed appalling listening to the whole process online. Some journalist first put sweet words in the mouth of the president and just ask him to repeat them. I remember a lady whose main aim was to get the president's attention so complimented him for how gorgeous he looked than ask a relevant question that will excite the president. Disappointing indeed. How I wished Stephen Sackur was in the room.
Prof. Some of these Journalist are your former students, so what do you say? Garbage in garbage out!
Mister Lecturer I think you talk toooo much. Why didn't you attend so that we can at least get one Ghanaian asking a sensible and thought provoking question? Why should someone ask questions the same way you will ask them? Ya br3 wo, haba!

Prof you have never spoken well of the current gov't so I take your current comment on the prez encounter with the press with a pinch of salt. You are not in a position to make a fair assessment since you have enormously demonstrated that this govt is not the one you adore since day one. One cannot therefore rely on your statement to judge the performance of the npp gov't. Also, your statement is an insult to members of the inky fraternity. That is rather unfortunate. Please dont let your hatred cloud your sense of judgement. Hate has never been victorous instead it leaves in its trail self destruction.
our journalists are dummies, including the editor of peacefmonline who indulges a lot in stuuuuuupppiddd & foooooooolish non-newsworthy items
