Over 500 homes at Kibi around Ofori Panin Fie, palace of Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin II, have been earmarked for bulldozing to pave the way for the palace’s expansion project, Mr Daniel Aboagye, Convener of a group called Concerned Citizens of Okyeman, has confirmed to ClassFMonline.com.
According to him, the homes to be affected have been given eviction notices since December last year and were, two weeks ago, given reminders of the intended demolition exercise by the Okyehene’s Secretary.
The residents to be affected, some of whom Mr Aboagye said have lived in their homes near the palace for over 70 years, are in a state of anxiety as the August-end deadline approaches.
According to him, the residents have petitioned the Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, who happens to a native of the area, to intervene, but to no avail.
Mr Aboagye claimed the Okyehene promised to build houses for the residents to be affected but that has not happened.
Sources within the Okyehene’s palace, however, say those to be affected are squatters who do not own the properties on which they live.

You are evicting the same people who will serve and pay homage to you. As for the allegation that they are squatters is neither here nor there. They have lived there for over 70 year when I believe the Okyehene was not even born. When did they realise that and what effort did they make to regularise their stay since I believe some of them might be elderly people who cannot afford to build a single room having inherited some of the properties.
Okyehene again is skimming to rivalry the Otomfuo. Why does he need a Palace that big? Well it's no secret this Palace Expansion is being funded by Nana Addo & Gabby with taxpayers money. Meanwhile citizens under his rule are struggling to earn a decent Living & suffering from the after effects of all the to galamsey.
Even the palace at the moment you have not even working on it and you want to demolish people's ancestral homes for selfish empowerment. Wake up people and lets stop this abnormal act by hiding under the pretense of chieftaincy. The time to act is now my people.
stup1d1ty at its best. can they find a better location for the palace?
because you want to enlarge your palace, someone should loose his or her house. Ayeeko, well done. The day the land owner will come? people behave as if we are all not passengers in this world. Those in authority, please sometimes, try as much as possible to put yourselves into peoples shoes.
The President should get involved asap
my king should take tym. we have lived in these houses over the years and he should stop it. We should get the court involved
How many buildings are in kibi?
