Professor Augustine Nwagbara has narrated the ordeal he suffered in the hands of Ghanaians when he had a faceoff with the Ghanaian authorities, their media and security agencies last month.
Recall that Nwagbara, a professor of English, had a fallout with the Ghana authorities after a video of him criticising the government over the manner in which Nigerians are being treated in their country, went viral.
Narrating his ordeal when he paid a courtesy visit on the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja yesterday July 18th, Nwagbara said he went through harsh treatment from the University authorities in Ghana as he was subjected to series of interrogations by the University of Education, Winniba, Ghana.
“They said I was sacked, then dismissed, which was another wrong word to use, as you cannot dismiss some body on sabbatical in your country. As I speak with you , I have not received any letter of sack or dismissal whereas various factions of the letters are already in circulation in Ghana and on social media” the don said.
He applauded the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Abikoye for ensuring his safety throughout the period he was being attacked.
“But for him, I probably would have been a dead man”, Professor Nwagbara said. Responding, Abike Dabiri-Erewa commended him for speaking up for Nigerians.
“We are proud of you as one of our best brains. You are an asset to your country. Not surprising that you’ve received offers from other Universities to complete your sabbatical before returning to the University of Lagos” she said.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, over 1000 Nigerians have been deported in controversial circumstances by Ghanaian authorities in the last two years.
“Between January and June 2019, 509 Nigerians were forcefully deported while 527 Nigerians got deported in 2018. We are not going to tolerate any country treating Nigerians shabbily. Our stand is that if a Nigerian commits a crime, other Nigerians should not suffer for that” she said.

UEW sacks Nigerian Professor Nwagbara for disparaging remarks -
The University of Education, Winneba, has dismissed Nigerian English lecturer, Professor Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara, with immediate effect.
Prof. Nwagbara has assumed instant prominence in Ghanaian media, both traditional and social, following his unsavory comments in a video that has since gone viral about a range of issues, including the standard and value of Ghanaian education.
In a statement signed by the Registrar of UEW, the university said it took a very serious view of the video which had circulated on social media involving the professor.
It said the university "after subjecting Prof. Augustine Uzoma Nwagbara to internal disciplinary process, finds him culpable of gross misconduct and has, accordingly, dismissed him".
The university, however, apologised to Ghanaians "for Prof. Nwagbara's disparaging remarks about this country's educational system and further indicates that the comments were full of inaccuracies".
The statement said the university was "highly disturbed by the huge embarrassment his unguarded comments had brought to the institution, the ministry of education, and, indeed, Ghana as a whole". graphic.com.gh

"Nigeria is far better than Ghana." If that's the case then why did he decide to settle in Ghana?
Satan is using this so called professor.
Good riddance!!
Stay in your country dasol.
Did I read somewhere in the reportage that many 'Nigerians have been deported in controversial circumstances by Ghanaian authorities in the last two years'? What do they mean by 'controversial circumstances'? Haven't Nigerians in Ghana engaged in kidnapping, cyber crimes, robbery, etc. in Ghana? TEhe crimes committed by Nigerians in Ghana are to many to count. The most recent one is the kidnapping of the two Canadian ladies in Kumasi. What are you talking about? Nigerians in Ghana had the audacity to block the road at Kasoa and burn tyres..and protest against Ghana Immigration. Can Ghanaians in Nigeria do same in Nigeria and go scot freee? Ghanaians are hospitable but you can overstay your welcome, and this must be told the Prof who asked Nigerians to do all sorts of diabolic acts to tarnish the name of our dear country, Ghana. Shame on the good old Prof.
Is this guy a professor? A lot of big HOLES and inconsistencies. Lord have Mercy. This is a typical half uneducated impostor who would to use a bought title.
This man is Evil, he desires confusion. May fire burn his heard, Ghanaians welcome Nigerians as brothers. It's no news across the globe how some Nigerians has tarnished the name of Nigeria, so what is this man saying. He is a disgraced to his own intellect.
This man can lie for Ghana. Eeii
Did he apologize for all the lies and deliberate misinformation he put out? That is the first thing he should have done. I wonder the lies and misinformation he has been teaching his students over the years. Any institution that offers this so-called professor a job will be doing the students a disservice.
Well he used the word probably so he also admit that he probably would not have been harmed just that his comments were in bad taste and there was no way he could have continued lecturing in the institutions who are giving 20 percent of Nigeria's standards. He should learn to admit his wrong and move on instead of trying to come clean.
