The leadership of the Coalition of Unemployed Nurses (CUN) has said six members of the group have been arrested by the Police for picketing the Ministry of Health to demand that they are employed.
A statement dated 21 October 2019 and signed by Mr Paul Selorm, the Convener of the group, said: “We are saddened to announce the arrest of our members who were at the premises of the Ministry of Health to lawfully demand employment.
“We can confirm that the Ghana Police Service has arrested six members of the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana, including Abdul Sugri Rafiq, the Convener of the group who led this protest at the Ministry of Health. Some information available to us indicate that they have been sent to the Central Police station in Accra.
“We are, by this release, calling on the Ghana Police Service and the Minister in charge of National Security to release our members with immediate effect or face the wrath of the unemployed nurses across the country.
“Also, we are calling on our members to remain calm for more updates and further directives on this unfortunate incident. The arrest of our members is an illegal act and an affront to the rights and freedom of the innocent unemployed nurses.
“We, therefore, demand their immediate and unconditional release and an apology from the Ghana Police Service.”

These are trained professionals with license. How many trained, licensed professional graduates in other professions are home jobless? These are people who are bonded to be employed hence their demands. It's high time unemployed graduates of other fields should drop their jealous and PhD syndrome on nurses for you have no right to demonstrate unlike the nurses, else u would. Don't be acting as endorsers of unemployment because you are unemployed.
Jobless nurse so what? Do you know how many years I have been jobless , so I can just wake up one day and do what ever I want just because am jobless, ***barred word***
this is total ***barred word*** nd unrespectful act. calling for what released? do you people know the number of graduate who are jobless? you call yourselves graduate nurses nd so on but you act before you think.

Seriously Ghana Police. who murdered Yaa Naa, Murdered Tadi kidnappers etc. aBan have you in his pocket.
Why do we allow nurses to be on our neck as a nation. Are they the only people in Ghana unemployed. We have read our Bsc. And BA. from premier universities in Ghana. We are managing our transitions into the world of work. Nurses, with all due respect, let have serenity as you are not the only graduates in Gh
You cant just wake up and demonstrate. In as much as you have a genuine case that needs to be addressed doesn't mean you should be lawless.
I think Ghana has lost its way in the journey of DEMOCRACY. Every institution is out or order and its no wonder we are under a dictatorial leadership. True patriots must wake up, Ghana is in a mess !
