The leadership of the Coalition of Unemployed Nurses (CUN) has said six members of the group have been arrested by the Police for picketing the Ministry of Health to demand that they are employed.
A statement dated 21 October 2019 and signed by Mr Paul Selorm, the Convener of the group, said: “We are saddened to announce the arrest of our members who were at the premises of the Ministry of Health to lawfully demand employment.
“We can confirm that the Ghana Police Service has arrested six members of the Graduate Unemployed Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana, including Abdul Sugri Rafiq, the Convener of the group who led this protest at the Ministry of Health. Some information available to us indicate that they have been sent to the Central Police station in Accra.
“We are, by this release, calling on the Ghana Police Service and the Minister in charge of National Security to release our members with immediate effect or face the wrath of the unemployed nurses across the country.
“Also, we are calling on our members to remain calm for more updates and further directives on this unfortunate incident. The arrest of our members is an illegal act and an affront to the rights and freedom of the innocent unemployed nurses.
“We, therefore, demand their immediate and unconditional release and an apology from the Ghana Police Service.”

Why is paecefm using the same picture for all news related to nurses? I first saw this picture related to a news item about nurses failing to find husbands. Ever since, my brain thinks those girls in the picture are looking for husbands.
Does government have to employed student immediately after graduating? In any case have you done your national service yet. Some of these will help you find jobs. When you are posted to my small village in the Central Region you will say there is no light, no good roads, no better conditions of service. Come and be president and see whether you can employ every one after graduation.
The way the police is making our government unpopular it will be very difficult for us to win 2020 election. We shouldn't delude ourselves that free SHS will save us, because the rate at which even some of these children are complaining is very high. It is unbelievable that under our leadership when the youth decide to picket or demonstrate for their right they are mercilessly beaten and arrested. The same youth were the reason we are in power today. I am sure our 1m extra votes given us by the youth. As soon as the withdraw their votes we are done. We need to be careful.

If a professional nurse will not respect the laws of Ghana and think that he/she wake up and demonstrate thinking they are above the law, Ghana is not in juggle state where anybody who feel not getting job can misbehave under guise of not working. If a train nurse will behave uncultured in this manner then getting job to cater for Ghanaian patients will disaster.Records of dying patients will be high .Characters like those demonstrated without recourse to patient safety requires no job placement and the arrested people must be dealt with laws of Ghana without fear or favor to deter others from similar stu pidty and use--leeeness Ghana is not for uncultured nurse alone
